Agoro Carbon Alliance addresses a key global problem: the impact of agriculture’s global  greenhouse gas (GHS) emissions on our climate and the implementation of sustainable carbon  capturing potential at the farm. Our passion lies in solving this global crisis by working with our customers and partners to bring about sustainable transformation of farming practices  incentivized by making this economically viable for the grower. 

About the Role:

If you like solving complex technical challenges this is the right place to be: from using remote sensing technology & machine learning, to verifying certain farming activities, and analyzing machinery data of farm equipment — we have a large range of technical decisions to solve for. 


We want to drive a global change. To do it, we need data Not just 1 layer of it, but multiple layers Some of the data is public, but some of them will be created by us, by our scientists and models. It’s definitely a multi-dimensional problem, at a global scale.

You will play the lead role in defining & delivering the technology required for us to scale, using a combination of in-house and external technical resources.


The Senior Engineering Manager has the responsibility to create competent teams, robust infrastructure, and well-rounded processes. You’ll be managing professionals from multiple specialties like Software Engineering, Quality Assurance, Data Engineering, and Data Science.


As we are a growth stage startup, there is much to contribute around OKRs, team creation (definition, hiring, training), ways of working, product and value creation support. Agoro Carbon has recently been created as part of Yara International. As we are still relatively new, you will have the ability to significantly shape our digital solutions & architecture, as well as our engineering teams.


What you will be doing: 

  • Driving the technical and strategic vision of the team as well as dive into the day-to-day
  • Building, developing, and leading a high performing team of talented & engaged individuals
  • Coaching & mentoring around their career, personal development, and company happiness
    • Providing leadership in architecting and developing the technology capabilities needed to support Agoro’s business
    • Researching and vetting potential 3rd party software solutions
    • Collaborating with teams to identify/fix technical issues, track/prioritize technical debt, and maintain/improve procedures for development, deployment, and system stability
    • Working with the team leaders and external vendors to guarantee proper delivery and performance and fostering a culture of quality
    • Collaborating with IT to ensure stability and high standards of our systems
  • Work with all teams at Agoro to continuously iterate to meet our objectives


What you will bring:

  • You have experience of 10+ years, with at least 3-5 years leading engineering teams of 10 or more
  • Self-starter with an ownership mindset
  • Experience working in a high-paced, innovation-driven, startup(- like) environment, preferably from early stage through market fit/growth
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, ability to influence, engage, and lead others
  • Passion for being part of creating a new sustainability business in agriculture. Eager to learn and shape new business approaches through technology. Willing to continuously learn and embark on new paths. 
  • Diligent doer and executer, passionate to bring technology to life in a short period of me
  • You are comfortable translating sometimes ambiguous business problems into plans that our engineers can act on and feel passionate about
  • You care about facilitating learning and growth on the team - you put our engineers first
  • You have a passion for data related services
  • You understand good systems design
  • Broad first hand technology leadership capabilities (e.g., front and backend software, ML, generative AI)
  • Experience in building platforms or tools where the main users are other engineers or data scientists
  • Experience with multi-layered geo-spacial data is a plus
  • Superior skills in English; Portuguese and other languages a plus
  • Prior AgTech experience is a nice-to-have
