The Academy of the Holy Cross seeks a full-time Chemistry Teacher who will inspire an appreciation for laboratory science in our students starting in the 2024-25 academic year.

The ideal candidate will develop and deliver student-centered instruction to engage a diverse group of learners and will thrive in a collaborative environment with colleagues, supporting the developmental needs of adolescent girls. This candidate will work with department colleagues to align pedagogy and curriculum vertically, ensuring students have a meaningful scope and sequence throughout their Holy Cross experience. Additionally, they will collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students.

The Science Department at the Academy of the Holy Cross aims to foster an appreciation for scientific knowledge and inquiry, ignite curiosity about the natural world, and develop scientifically literate citizens. The science department follows a Physics First curriculum, where 9th graders take conceptual physics, 10th graders study chemistry, and 11th graders learn biology. We are looking for a passionate candidate to join our collaborative and enthusiastic science and engineering faculty, dedicated to connecting classroom experiences with real-world applications.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches 5 sections of Chemistry, including honors courses and AP level,
  • Develops instructional materials and organizes laboratory experiments, based on curriculum guidelines and compatible with the instructional philosophy and Mission of the Academy of the Holy Cross.
  • Shares a love of learning and creates a rich, dynamic learning environment through varied and differentiated instruction and authentic assessments.
  • Ensures student safety during laboratory experiments, following safety protocols for handling chemicals and equipment. Aids in maintenance of chemical inventory and storage.
  • Embraces technology, as appropriate, to enrich our students’ learning experience and uses the student learning management system for feedback, grades, and assignments
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide a productive, encouraging, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Evaluates and provides timely feedback on student progress appropriate to the level of instruction, and makes curricular adjustments in accordance with student needs
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress
  • Commits to intellectual curiosity, taking their teaching practice in innovative directions by participating in professional development activities
  • Become active members of the school community as club moderators, coaches, advisors, and mentors outside of the classroom.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A. in a scientific field, or a secondary education degree with discipline-specific coursework.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Previous teaching experience would be advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
