To be successful as a Mentor at our Day Program, you should be thorough, supportive, and caring with the ability to multi task. You should be prepared to meet the physical demands of the position and have some understanding of intellectual developmental disabilities. Other key duties will include, organizing activities, community integration, building relationships, creating mentorship and vocational opportunities for the participants within the community.

Responsibilities:


1. Mentor, support, and train skill-appropriate participants to learn basic skills and concepts to obtain vocational skills.

2. Provide support, such as setting schedules and routines, grooming, accessing community resources, fiscal management.

3. Quickly identify problem areas and situations, effectively analyze problem causes, and take appropriate action to resolve problems identified and maintain a safe environment.

4. Assisting participants discover new interests and hobbies through the introduction of college courses, community integration and work programs.

5. Ensuring participants are learning positive behaviors and providing support as needed.

6. Prepares a variety of memorandums, correspondences, and daily reports related to assigned activities and functions.

7. Serve as a resource to participants towards their Individual Service Plan (ISP) progress in achieving personal goals.

8. Effectively build relationships and interact with the participants and encourage them to create relationships with other participants, and the community.

9. Attends vocational and/or continued education workshops, training courses, and meetings.

10.Employee may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Qualifications:


  • Exceptional and effective communication, teaching, leadership and interpersonal skills with a wide range of individuals, including under emotionally charged/stressful situations. Familiar with community integration, work programs, volunteer opportunities and how to access community services.
  • Must be decisive, patient, passionate, and enthusiastic with the ability to effectively lead a team and create programs in support of L.I.V.E.s mission and our participants.
Education/Certifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification is required.
  • A minimum of 1 years experience in a similar role related to providing direct support services for day programs, vocational counseling, mentorship, or conflict resolution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Must provide Department of Motor Vehicles driving record printout to show proof of valid California driving record in good standing
  • Health (TB) screening with ability to pass a background check.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Incumbents regularly sit, stoop, kneel, crouch and reach with hands and arms; specific abilities required by this job include, standing, walking, hearing, speaking clearly and distinctly to provide instructions or convey information; duties related to driving will include, regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, working around airborne particles and moving parts, pumping gasoline, close vision for distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to fine print and reading maps.
