Summary Receives and stores raw materials. Picks, packs and prepares orders for shipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following:

  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves or other storage areas.
  • Stores perishable materials in refrigerated areas.
  • Marks materials with identifying information.
  • Opens bales, crates and other containers.
  • Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
  • Arranges product parts in specific sequence for assembly by other workers.
  • Prepares parcels for mailing.
  • Obtains samples for Quality Control.
  • Operates forklift or uses hand truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from receiving platforms to storage or work area.
  • Assists with quarterly cycle counts.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against orders or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment.
  • Affixes shipping labels on packed contains or stencils identifying shipping information on containers.
  • Assembles containers or selects pre-assembled containers.
  • Inserts items into containers.
  • Stamps, stencils or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
  • Posts weights and shipping charges and affixes postage (if applicable).
  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
  • Operates forklift or uses hand truck to move, convey or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platforms to storage or work area.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills - Some computer skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations In addition to a high school diploma or GED certificate, must be fork truck certified.
