Title: Paint Technician

FTE Status: Full Time – 40 hours

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Production Manager


Primary Purpose of Position:

Prepares and paints a variety of surfaces. Accurately formulates all refinishing coats, to include primer/undercoat, color, base coat, clear coat as applicable to meet industry standard and customer expectation.


Essential Functions:

1. Performs surface preparation; cleaning, sanding, and masking to ensure a smooth surface ready for painting.

2. Utilizes a variety of prep work and paint application techniques; to include spraying, solvents, clear coats, to ensure an even and consistent finish.

3. Inspects work to ensure against paint defects.

4. Mixes paint according to paint manufacturer’s specifications.

5. Sets up, cleans, and maintains painting equipment, mixing room, and paint booth.

6. Repairs defects such as scratches, chips, and air bubbles to meet industry standards and customer expectations.

7. Performs testing on dry films.

8. Adheres to all safety procedures and guidelines, including proper use of PPE, to minimize risk and maintain a safe and healthy workplace.

9. Learns continuously by staying up to date with industry trends and techniques, contributing to personal growth and the success of ICE.

10. Collaborates with co-workers to ensure success.


Preferred Knowledge of, Skill and/or Ability to:

· Read and understand manufacturer’s product information instructions and customer specifications.

· Maintain material traceability throughout the painting process.

· Perform appropriate surface preparations to ensure proper adhesion.

· Operate and maintain processing equipment (spray guns, hoses, etc)

· Knowledge of paint mixing techniques and ratios (primers, enamels, lacquers, thinners)

· Implement drying techniques, including cure temperatures and techniques

· Understanding of VOC limitation and required record keeping

· Monitor emissions from paint booth and keep records

· Understands various cleaning and pre-treatment processes and their effects on parts

· Read and understand instructions; to include drawings that identify masking, paint, and non-paint areas.

· Utilize safe methods of handling material, including chemicals, required in all aspects of process.

· Understand and perform various mixing techniques, including testing of viscosity levels, and the effects achieved from differing concentrations.

· Demonstrated proficiency in mixing paint and other paint-related tools.

· Attention to detail; a keen eye for detail to ensure paint application is smooth, even, free from defects, and extends to color matching and surface preparation.

· Work both independently and collaboratively with other team members.

· Manage time efficiently, handling multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines to ensure work is completed in a timely manner without compromising quality.

· Understand and adhere to industry safety protocols.

· Fluency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

· Written and oral communication skills in English, to complete & discuss technical information.

· Manages job stress and interacts effectively with others in the workplace.

· Adheres to budget and schedule commitments.


Preferred Education or Experience

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· Paint Training Education


Reporting:

• Direct report to Production Manager

• Works directly with other employees in a team environment

• Works with management, quality, and production for problem solving and production improvements


Working Conditions:

This position includes the ability to perform those activities to complete the essential functions of the job, either with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is primarily indoors in a manufacturing facility and paint booth.
