Job Overview


The Family Consultant role is essential in providing support to foster families, assessing client needs, and assisting in implementation of client goals. The Family Consultant is to stay apprised of client information, such as grades, behaviors, incidents, treatment plans, etc., and to provide recommendations for improvement and/or connect others with available resources. The Family Consultant acts as a liaison between Brighter Futures and client's outside team members. Family Consultants work closely with foster families, caseworkers, therapists, behaviorists, Guardian Ad Litem, and Support Coordinators to support clients in their permanency goals. 


General Responsibilities

  • Staff must adhere to the Agency's policies and procedures to work cooperatively with the Division of Child and Family Services, Office of Licensing, Juvenile Court and law enforcement officials, or others.
  • Must understand, agree, and abide by all requirements regarding confidentiality as provided by the State of Utah. 
  • Complete required paperwork to maintain compliance within Agency and governing agency requirements. Paperwork includes, but is not limited to, advisory notes, tracking notes, monthly progress reports, incident reports, Client Specific Training forms, Child and Family Team Meeting notes, Person Centered Support Plans, and any other required forms. 
  • Must attend and participate in required client meetings, Agency trainings, and any other required events. 
  • Must facilitate and complete scheduled "Home Visits" and inspections with families to provide feedback to adhere to client's safety and wellbeing. 
  • Communicate with caseworkers, foster families, and clients frequently and report to the client's team as needed. 
  • Resolve conflicts, respond to grievances, and make sound decisions while collaborating with families, clients, caseworkers, individuals within the client's school, etc.


Responsibilities to Clients

  • Advocate for clients individual or community needs with foster families, host homes, professional parents and in Child and Family Team Meetings. 
  • Understand the Agency's services provided to clients and communicate with team members on their progress in these services.
  • Have the ability to help and support youth and individuals in placement progress by understanding their behavioral, therapy, and individual goals. 
  • Assist with enrolling clients in school and reviewing school progress. 
  • Ensure appropriate parties are informed of any incidents including injuries, accidents, behavioral concerns, or other emergencies that involve the client. 
  • Understand, implement, and train families on approved intervention methods to de-escalate clients when displaying verbal or physical aggression. 
  • Assist connecting clients and families to resources for clients to transition to adult living. 


Qualifications, Experience, & Education Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older per state requirements
  • Ability to fluently speak English
  • Must be able to pass required background checks
  • 2 years experience in Social Work or Bachelor's in Social Work preferred
  • Experience working with families and community-based programs preferred
