Billing Specialist

Position Summary

Billing specialist is responsible for billing and follow-up. This position will work with other staff in the organization to ensure we get accurate information on claims. This position promotes revenue integrity and accurate billing and collections on accounts. Additionally this person will help with any duties assigned to help accounts receivable.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

· Ensures that timely, accurate billing and follow-up practices are occurring in accordance with payer requirements

· Conducts quality audits of patient demographic information and insurance eligibility

· Performs routine quality assurance checks of claims prior to submission to prevent denials; regularly tracks rejected claims and initiates correction, follow up or appeals processes as appropriate

· Works with managers to get accurate information back to the billing team

· Resolves bill holds on accounts

· Reviews aged claims and assist billers with claim submission as needed

· Responds to patient concerns and/or complaints on a routine basis and keeps Insurance Supervisor apprised of these issues

· Actively works Credit Balance report; Issues refunds when necessary

· Assist in any follow-up billing that needs to take place

· Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Education

- Billing Certification preferred

Experience

- 2 years of experience in hospital and/or physician accounts receivable management, including experience billing

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

- Proficient in Microsoft Office products especially Excel

- Expertise in accounts receivable management and hospital billing

- In-depth understanding of HIPAA regulations and proven ability to ensure confidentiality with respect to sensitive information

- Strong interpersonal abilities, including exceptional written and verbal communication and mediation skills

- Proven leadership skills and ability to gain cooperation and support from a diverse body of individuals

- Demonstrated analytical skills necessary to provide timely resolution of day-to-day issues

- Highly dependable in both production and attendance

- Exceptional organization and time management skills
