About you -

As a Product Engineer, you will be responsible for the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to manufacturing to packaging. The Product Engineer uses creative problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring products to market. Duties include performing market analysis of competing products to determine and establish customer needs and requirements. Efforts are then placed into exceeding customer expectations.

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Leads the qualification of new & existing products that conform to specifications and customer expectations.
  • Leads the qualification of alternate resins and raw materials used by outsourced partners for cost savings, obsolescence, and business continuity purposes.
  • Works cross-functionally with Suppliers, Customers, Product Technology, Quality, Process Engineering, R&D, Purchasing, and Commercial Teams, to provide technical support on problem investigations and to ensure effective closure of corrective actions.
  • Will work up to 50% of the time with our two production facilities in Mexico, therefore the ability to travel with frequency to those facilities will be required.
  • Supports change management process for temporary and permanent supplier deviations to raw materials, equipment, process, testing, specifications, and/or quality.
  • Serves as primary technical lead for outsourced quality improvement projects, and audits. Proactively identifies areas in need of improvement and coordinates investigations to successfully implement permanent correction actions to improve performance, quality, or reduce cost.
  • Reviews and interprets process capability analysis and provides technical recommendations for corrective actions on key process parameters that cause variability critical to quality product attributes.
  • Communicates regularly with the Supply Chain Director to share key supplier development activities and qualification milestones.
  • Co-owns PPAP that tracks Key Performance Indicators, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed product designs, ensuring alignment with specifications and customer requirements.
  • Oversee the prototyping process, conducting tests and evaluations to refine product designs and functionalities.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and standards to ensure product designs comply with all applicable requirements.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs teams to facilitate product certifications and approvals.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and engineering drawings.
  • Ensure that all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible to relevant teams.
  • Responsible for the design and configuration of product pack and packing specification. This will include but not limited to proper packaging material, labeling, barcoding, part number set up, pallets, pallet configuration and optimization for shipping.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Product Engineering (Master's degree preferred)
  • Familiarity with rubber production and extrusion a plus.
  • Minimum combined experience of five to eight years in supplier development, quality, process engineering, or product development.
  • Travel up to 50% to Mexican facilities
  • Fluency in Spanish highly preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in CAD software and other design tools.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certification processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and tools, their use and interpretation
  • Requires ability to manage a project and process involving multiple manufacturing areas, plants, and across various portions of the business.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk, sit, stand, walk, bend, and occasionally lift objects of up to 55 lbs.
  • Hands-on approach with regards to commissioning and troubleshooting Equipment.
