The Senior Manager of Patient Collections will be a key member of Discovery Behavioral Health’s (DBH) revenue cycle leadership team and report to the Vice President of Revenue Cycle. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of patient billing for DBH, as well as patient follow-up and collections. This position will have direct contact with appropriate patients for all unpaid claims, as well as non-payment, overpayments, and underpayments.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure efficient processing of billing patient claims, collection activities, and managing relationships with DBH’s early-out and bad debt collection vendors in resolution of outstanding balances
- Work diligently to ensure that patients understand their financial responsibility and are able to make timely payments
- Ensure all self pay payments are posted to accounts accurately and timely
- Perform required monthly reconciliation processes
- Work across multi-disciplinary teams (i.e., Admissions, Operations) to close gaps on self pay collection issues; ensure teams are collecting member responsibility up front whenever possible while maintaining processes that are efficient, effective, and compliant with all relevant regulations
- Monitor and implement best practices required for a healthy patient collections experience
- Verify and process patient credits; complete a reconciliation process monthly to ensure credits are posted correctly
- 3+ years of relevant revenue cycle operations experience, preferably in patient financial services
- Knowledge of billing medical claims in a third-party collection agency environment
- Familiar with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
