Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for providing comprehensive, professional, culturally, linguistically, and age appropriate care.  The NP educates patients to promote wellness, prevent illness, maintain current health, and treat acute or chronic illness. They must demonstrate the ability to provide culturally appropriate care options and integrates the quality care standards of the industry into their daily practice. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Work as member of the medical team, assist the Physicians/Nurse Practitioners, Medical Services Manager, and ODHC Administration in ensuring an efficient and effective model of practice and a positive philosophy/work environment.
  • Obtain patient history and perform assessment by observation, interview and examination.
  • Order, perform and interpret diagnostic studies.
  • Perform preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.
  • Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Perform clinical procedures approved by supervising provider or clinic-based protocol.
  • Counsel and educate patients concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Document in the electronic health record according to the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse scope or practice.
  • Preserve the patient’s control over decision making, assess the patient’s commitment to the jointly determined and mutually acceptable plan of care, and foster patient’s personal responsibility for health.
  • Conduct age appropriate and comprehensive or episodic health assessments of patients with real or potential, acute, or chronic problems with emphasis on wellness and patient education.
  • Perform physical examinations and order required immunizations.
  • Establish diagnoses, order, and interpret studies, perform, and monitor therapeutic procedures, assess and/or manage follow up care.
  • Prescribe and regulate medications relative to the patient’s health care needs.
  • Record and document health appraisal data, in a timely and accurate manner, necessary to maintain and/or coordinate required services.
  • Communicate findings of healthcare assessments, diagnostic tests, etc. to patients, peers, and other health care providers in a timely manner and/or as determined by clinic policy/procedure.
  • Share in the rotation of clinical hours for late days and in the on-call provider duties.
  • Maintain any other documentation required for insurance companies and MNDHS.
  • Maintain necessary NP registration/licensure and CPR certification as required by Minnesota state law and ODHC policy.
  • Communicate with your Manager/Director regarding any changes, concerns or issues that may arise.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications:

  • Board certified, MN licensed Nurse Practitioner with current DEA license.
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner license preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years related work experience.
  • Abide by ethical standards of licensing board.
  • Comply with credentialing requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Successful crisis management skills with experience in diffusing difficult situations.
  • Confidence, professional judgement, and grace under pressure.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.

 

Other Requirements:

As an employee, work outside of the typical workday will be necessary on occasion to facilitate the organization’s business. Travel is required to meetings, events and to support other clinic locations within the community and across the region. Means of travel and travel expenses will be reimbursed according to ODHC’s travel policy.   Physical ability to sit for extended periods of time.  Position requires repetitive use of fingers, hands, wrist in job related duties, i.e. telephone, computer.  Complete range of motion, including fine motor skills and tactile sense of both hands.  Able to lift 25 pounds.
