Job Description:

GoldenWolf is seeking a talented Architect to join our team, providing full-time, on-site support as part of the Defense Health Agency Headquarters’ Engineering Operations in San Antonio, TX. This position involves working on diverse and exciting projects, from initial design through to completion, while collaborating with a range of stakeholders and ensuring high-quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate efforts among multiple engineering disciplines to ensure consistency in project documentation.
  • Perform design services by reviewing directives, standard drawings, site data, guide specifications, and applicable criteria.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and supporting documents for advertised or negotiated procurements.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by A/E design firms.
  • Conduct site visits to discuss project design parameters and investigate construction problems for military and civil works projects.
  • Communicate effectively in writing to prepare, present, and evaluate plans, designs, reports, and correspondences.
  • Design various building types including laboratory and medical facilities.
  • Coordinate complex technical features of construction projects with internal and external customers.
  • Respond to RFIs, plan review comments, and construction submittals.
  • Conduct site investigation field trips to collect data, refine project scope, and develop concept designs.
  • Research and implement government policies, UFCs, guidance documents, regulations, and design guides.
  • Identify areas of risk associated with design and construction; develop mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate proposed projects and technical solutions for need, code compliance, effectiveness, and life cycle cost.
  • Perform functional testing and commissioning for government acceptance of envelope systems.
  • Travel to sites for detailed inspections, evaluating the effectiveness of maintenance procedures and operational practices, and provide comprehensive travel reports.
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in applied building architecture (professional architectural registration desirable). Alternatively, a minimum of 8 years of documented qualifying practical experience.
  • Credentials such as Registered Roofing Observer (RRO), Registered Roofing Consultant (RRC), and/or Registered Building Envelope Consultant are preferred.
  • Recent practical experience (within the last six months) spanning continuously over the preceding four years.
  • Required: US Citizen, National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Clearance or the ability to obtain said clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal, communicative, diplomatic, and analytical skills for presenting to executive leadership and large audiences.
  • Strong schematic design and design development experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate consultant teams.
  • Ability to interact with owners and user groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Desired: LEED Certification.
  • Capable of hand sketching and effectively communicating concepts and ideas.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building programs, and related materials.

Salary:

Compensation is based on skills and experience.
