DETAILED SUMMARY:

The Program Accountant provides high level accounting support to programs of the Opportunity Council, including working with agency fiscal and program directors and fiscal staff to develop and maintain reporting systems for planning purposes and for monitoring of spending progress.

Maintains and inputs program budgets in Intacct to facilitate programmatic and agency wide reporting. Calculates and provides financial information to facilitate contract renewals and applications. Assists in the review of allowable charges to grants, the preparation of monthly billings and grant closeouts. Works on special projects for developing systems in new areas of the agency undertaking and/or in new approaches to existing operations.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops,maintains,andprovidesregularlyscheduledandondemandreportsinsupportof program managers anddirectors.

2. Prepares monthly billing reports for funding sources along with analyzing grant spending progress and accountsreceivable.

3. Maintains and inputs program budgets in Intacct to facilitate programmatic and agency wide reporting.

4. Under the direction of program directors, develops internal systems to provide statistical information to management necessary forplanning.

5. Coordinates accurate coding of contract expenses with agency fiscal and programstaff.

6. Assists program directors with contract renewal and grant applicationbudgets.

7. Provides support in preparation of and during programreviews.

8. Performs grant closeout at end of grant period, including but not limited to final billings, reporting and GLadjustments.

9. Reviews labor and accounts payable distribution reports to ensure the proper coding of expenses to grants andcontracts.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attends staff training and meetings asrequired.

2. Works on special projects for developing systems in new areas of agency undertaking or in new approaches to existingoperations.

3. Other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION, EXPERIIENCE, TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

1. A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or a relatedfield.

2. Nonprofit experiencepreferred

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. Communication and negotiation skills; frequently discusses confidential, complex activities significant to the department’s short– and long–term operations, services and/or cost effectiveness with management level staff and a variety of fundingagencies.

2. Ability to provide guidance, internal consulting, and technical direction regarding significant issues; regularly provide internal guidance to agency directors and managers. Requires broad analytical skills and strategic thinking and planningabilities.

3. Innovation skills; regularly requires the development of innovative and complex methods, procedures, or systems.

4. Time management and organizationalskills.

5. Abilitytomeetdeadlinesandworkunderstress,producingaccurateinformationandreportsin a timelymanner.

6. Computer skills, including complex Excel, ABRA (payroll software), and Intacct (financial software); ability includes understanding of systems operations, ability to create accurate reporting tools, and the ability to analyze the dataproduced.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a fast–paced office environment with frequent interruptions and occasional crisis situations. Travel also includes attending local and statewide level meetings. Majority of work centers on client services and procedures that require a high degree of confidentiality, tactfulness and respect for clients from a diversity of economic and ethnic backgrounds. All job duties are completed while following current Washington State COVID-19 safety guidelines.
