Arizona G&T Cooperatives is seeking candidates for the position of Substation Apparatus Technician based out of our Benson, AZ office. This position works to safely, economically and efficiently install, maintain, test and calibrate as needed, all assigned equipment owned or to be maintained by the Cooperative. This position is also responsible to respond to after-hours call-outs as required. With the location of the Cooperatives substations around the state, the Substation Apparatus Technicians are also required to travel and stay out of town to perform necessary duties, occasionally. Candidates are also required to possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License (Class A) within six months from the date of hire.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Account for and advise the need for maintenance of an adequate stock of spare parts in accordance with the Cooperative's policies and procedures.
  • Properly care for and protect equipment assigned to the Cooperative to be used in the discharge of duties.
  • Become familiar with drawings and instruction bulletins, on all equipment as required.
  • Check, revise and keep current substation drawings and diagrams as required.
  • Install and wire new additions or replacements to existing equipment as required.
  • Maintain continuing records of all calibration tests on equipment along with files of preventative maintenance records.
  • Perform the maintenance and testing of electrical devices, apparatus and equipment within the Cooperative power delivery system as required.
  • Perform switching on power delivery system in conformance with established operational procedures.

Minimum requirements are a High School diploma or recognized equivalent and the completion of a (4) four-year apprenticeship program. Successful candidates should have strong mechanical abilities and the ability to read and follow schematic prints and wiring diagrams. Preferred experience includes: 4 years of field experience and knowledge of high voltage transmission power systems operations and maintenance. Also knowledge of the following test equipment is a plus: Power quality test equipment and oscilloscope. Transformer turn ratio tester, breaker analyzer, ductor, HiPot tester, power factor test equipment, and megger.
