JOB DESCRIPTION: Title and Classification: Middle school Mandarin Immersion Teacher

Summary:

The RCSD Mandarin Immersion Program will provide an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through a total language immersion approach.

Essential Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The

Depending on the assignment, duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain a language immersion atmosphere using native Mandarin speaking skills

  • Use the instructional time to maximize student learning opportunities

  • Provide Mandarin language instruction in MLA and Social Studies and other subjects during the instructional day such as electives or other core classes as needed.

  • Plan for differentiation in instruction to meet varying needs

  • Collaborate with program colleagues to provide an excellent learning environment for the students in the Mandarin Dual Language Program

  • Collaborate with staff and district office support personnel

  • Plan student interventions based on individual student performance data

  • Ability to use varied assessments, including performance tasks, portfolios, and student self-assessment

  • Administer teacher-developed Mandarin assessment for students

  • Use formative and summative assessment data to inform Mandarin instruction

  • Communicate regularly with students’ parents and families

  • Establish and maintain standards of behavior and teacher-pupil relationships that encourage independence and self-control

  • Administers and records group standardized tests as mandated by the District

  • Maintain appropriate records, report cards, tests, cumulative records and attendance

  • Plan and organize lessons to meet the needs of the individual student

  • Participate in staff meetings and in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level during the normal working day

  • Participate in the Mandarin curriculum development

  • Attend school, district, and other required professional development


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university

  • BCLAD or equivalent

  • California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science and Mandarin or California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin language required

  • Previous experience in Dual Language program preferred

  • Experience working with a racially and economically diverse population

  • Strong behavior management and positive discipline skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with professional personnel, community and parents

  • Ability to coordinate and direct the work of instructional assistants, support personnel( if applicable)

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field (preferred)

  • Mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone, computer, calculator and office machines at required speed and accuracy.

  • Ability to identify and interpret communications in handwritten and printed materials, and on the display screen of various office equipment and machines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in order to perform assigned duties and to exchange information in person, in front of groups, and telephonically.

  • Ability to observe, monitor, and manage student activities and other assigned duties effectively.

  • Physical agility to move self in various positions in order to execute duties effectively, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping and reaching overhead;

  • physical stamina sufficient to sustain light physical labor and remain in stationary position for up to 8 hours.

  • Physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, District, school site to site) for sustained periods of time on hard flooring, climb slopes, stairs, ramps and to respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 20 pounds of materials or supplies; occasionally lift 40 or more pounds with or without assistance.

  • Occasionally push and/or pull a variety of tools, equipment, or objects weighing 80 or more pounds with or without assistance

  • Indoor work environment.
