Travel: Minimum of 3 days onsite per week and as needed. Remote work is arranged on the rest of
the working days including meetings. (Subject to change.)

About Barrier Free Living
Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community. Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and nonresidential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence, transitional shelter to the disabled homeless, and outreach to physically disabled individuals with mental health and/or chemical addiction issues. Services include case management; housing placements; independent living skills training; occupational therapy; short and long-term individual counseling; advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems; and referrals to outside services.

Role Summary
The Occupational Therapy (OT) Program Manager directs all occupational therapy services across Barrier Free Living’s programs, Freedom House (Emergency DV Shelter), Barrier Free Living Apartments (Supportive Housing) and Secret Garden (non-residential Counseling and Referral program). The OT Program Manager is responsible for coordinating the occupational therapy student-intern program, as well as supervising one Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA).

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • New York State Occupational Therapy License
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ clinical experience working in Community Mental Health with at least one year of supervisory experience in Occupational Therapy
  • Awareness of trauma-informed provision of services, and sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the populations served
  • Must have strong leadership skills, a good ability to work collaboratively with professionals, ability to set appropriate limits with clients/tenants/residents and coworkers, excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Computer Proficiency (FamCare electronic documentation, Google Office Suite)
  • Must have strong ability to work independently
  • Bilingual (Spanish/ASL) preferred
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate OT intern program by developing clinical affiliation agreements with accredited institutions
  • Organize ongoing intern rotation/schedule with academic institutions
  • Conduct interviews, screens and assign OT interns to the various programs within BFL
  • Travel between BFL programs
  • Provide weekly group and individual supervision to interns that meet AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association) standards (8 direct hours per week for 8-12 weeks)
  • Supervise OTA in OT service provision at BFL Apartments, including evaluation, treatment planning, and OT-related activities
  • Review and co-sign all legal documentation found in client/resident/tenant charts produced by interns and OTA
  • Collaborate with academic fieldwork coordinators regularly regarding intern progress/lack of progress
  • Maintain all intern-related paperwork (i.e., student manual, med clearance, info sheets, school contracts, performance evaluations)
  • Conduct timely midterm and final evaluations that meet AOTA standards
  • Develop and provides an array of OT resources to interns for professional development via journals, in-service/training announcements, textbooks, publications, and web resources
  • Entertain regular site visits conducted by fieldwork coordinators from various academic institutions
  • Demonstrate assessments, screenings, intakes, and facilitates groups with OT interns at assigned sites
  • Guide and supervise a team of OT interns in all OT treatment provided at site
  • Attend and conduct weekly OT team meetings to discuss administrative, scheduling, procedural topics or conduct in-services
  • Participate in scheduled program-related meetings, trainings, and case consultations
  • Maintain and keep inventory of all OT supplies and equipment needed at each site
  • Communicate and collaborate with support staff re: all OT-related issues
  • Generate monthly reporting/statistics of OT services provided at each site
  • Promote BFL OT internship programs via lectures and related conferences
  • Participate in outreach and collaborates with partner organizations
