Reports To: Director of Maintenance
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A paint and body helper shall with supervision, satisfactorily and safely assist in painting and simple repairs to company transit fleet and/or equipment as assigned by a supervisor.
- Performs corrosion control measures before painting.
- Straightens body dents on vehicles.
- Straightens and strengthens frame damage.
- Sands and prepares body repairs for painting.
- Welds and rivets parts of vehicles.
- Removes and replaces minor components, including windows in the process of repair actions.
- Prepares labor and parts cost estimates for damaged vehicles.
- Paints vehicles using spray or brush painting techniques.
- Mix paints to match requirements.
- Prepares written reports, documents defects and repairs on inspection forms, work orders or designated computer programs.
- Operates computer for related data input and retrieval.
- May familiarize other Paint and Body Workers with the proper method of performing their job.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Required to work and/or assist with road calls and pulls off as needed.
- Ensure all required duty checklists are completed and accurate in compliance with company policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Repair vehicles in a manner consistent with the accepted methods in the paint and body repair industry, and SPORTRAN standards.
- Effectively read, understand and apply technical information found in repair manuals, service change bulletins, and applicable technical documents, including, parts and supply manuals.
- Operate arc, metal inert gas (mig), tungsten inert gas (tig), plasma cutting, and oxy/acetylene welding equipment with a high degree of competence.
- Demonstrate the proper use of shop equipment and personal safety equipment used during business.
- Use tools common to trade efficiently and safely.
- Work under established deadlines.
- Prepare written reports, document defects and repairs on inspection forms, work orders, or designated computer programs.
- Perform computer-related functions that allow for data input and retrieval.
- Learn and stay current on all new technologies introduced into the transit industries as it relates to bus maintenance.
- Recognize corrosion defects and take appropriate action.
- Operate a variety of equipment, i.e. forklifts, pallet jacks, utility vehicles, etc.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted during business
High school diploma or equivalent
MUST have a valid Drivers License with the ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License with Passenger Endorsement within 120 days of employment.
MUST be available to work varying shifts to include days, nights, weekends and holidays.
MUST be able to pass physical agility tests with no limitations on upper or lower back.
MUST be able to walk, stoop, kneel, bend, push and/or pull to complete moderate to heavy lifting when necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices within 60 days of employment. t.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of transit bus and/or automotive systems (I.e. mechanical, electrical, air conditioning, pneumatic, hydraulic, or other systems)
- Knowledge of compressed natural gas and cleaning solvents.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All positions are Safety Sensitive and subject to pre-employment requirements to include: drug test, background check, and clean driving record.
Eligible applicants will have no more than two (2) moving violations in the past five years and no convictions of a serious traffic violation (i.e., DWI, driving with a suspended, canceled or revoked license) in the past five years.
