Job Description

Position Overview:

The KIPP NYC Regional Middle School Reading Interventionist is a member of the regional Student Support Services Team and will be responsible for delivering targeted reading interventions to small groups of students to drive their literacy growth. The Regional Interventionist will support students in reading in collaboration with the Senior Director, Student Support Services. The Regional Interventionist will plan intervention instruction in response to student skill gaps identified from a variety of data sources.  The Reading Interventionist will be responsible for developing students’ skills in the target area(s) such as Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension using a variety of resources & methodologies grounded in the Science of Reading.  The Reading Interventionist will have access to training and materials in relevant programs including IMSE Orton-Gillingham, DIBELS mCLASS and i-Ready Reading. The Reading Interventionist will be assigned to KIPP NYC schools in response to data and student needs. This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Student Support Services.

This role is based in NYC and will require travel to our schools. Cadence and frequency of travel to schools is determined by your leadership team. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of NY, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP NYC. It is important that you notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate.

Duties Include but are Not Limited to:

  • Provide direct instruction during the regular school day at scheduled times for middle school students still developing foundational reading skills primarily in phonics, fluency and vocabulary.

  •  Internalize lesson plans from Orton Gillingham, mCLASS DIBELS or i-Ready materials depending on the skill gap and need of students.

  • Support teachers supporting tier 1 instruction to align interventions as needed and appropriate.

  • Report student progress and present levels of performance ahead of IEP reviews, for assigned students with IEPS

  • Administer progress monitoring assessments for students, including DIBELS assessments, LETRS phonics and word reading survey, and teacher created assessments as needed to inform instruction.

  • Regularly review student work and assessment data in order to ensure instruction is data-driven.

  • Communicate with families of students with positive and adjusting updates regarding their child’s progress.

  • Travel between schools sites and/or serving temporary residencies at schools based on assignment

  • Build relationships and support assigned schools as needed.

  • Collaborate with other members of the regional Student Support Services for programming, data analysis and professional development

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Education required with at least three years’ experience teaching intervention  in a Secondary or Upper Elementary setting.

  • NYS Certification in Literacy, Special Education, Students with Disabilities, Speech and Language Therapy, or equivalent.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage all aspects of the role.

  • Proficiency and experience with instructional methods grounded in the Science of Reading: Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, REWARDS, DIBELS mCLASS, LETRS, or similar.

Additional Information

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $80,000 to $100,000 per year. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band. Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range, however they are ultimately determined by scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
