Job Summary


The Credit Analyst with an emphasis in loan portfolio monitoring is skilled in both credit and data analysis. The Analyst uses the data they collect to understand trends, solve business problems, and monitor metrics. They assist in determining the data the CCO needs, structuring it in an appropriate format, analyzing the data using queries, and creating reports and visualizations for the Chief Credit Officer or its designee. The Analyst is responsible for report generation, process improvement, risk assessment, and addressing the needs of the Credit department as Directed by the Chief Credit Officer. Projects are centered on the usage of spreadsheets, database management, information gathering, cross-department coordination, and the development of more efficient processes. In addition to report writing and the above mentioned, the Credit Analyst will contribute to annual loan review and renewals. This includes, assessing the condition and quality of individual credits based on financial, collateral, and documentation analysis. Quantify metrics such as: debt service capacity, leverage, liquidity, collateral coverage, guarantor support, etc. Determine the appropriate risk rating for Borrowers according to current Lending Policy and regulatory guidance. Promptly identify and report identified issues to Relationship Managers, Underwriters, and Chief Credit Officer.

Essential Job Duties

  • Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) Pledge Report
  • Loan Pipeline Report
  • Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) Report
  • Ad Hoc Reports
  • Responsible for improving usage of core banking systems and integrating core with external programs or systems:
  • Stress Test Reports
    1. provide serviceable data to third-party stress test model vendors.
  • Sageworks Integration and maintenance
    1. Continuously researching functionalities of the Jack Henry system to better serve the needs of Credit and Credit Servicing
      • Prior utilization research includes: Shadow Accounting System, Loan Participation Allocations, Tickler Code Utilization, CIF/Loan Data Field Assignment, and others.
  • Conducts loan review analysis of loans in the bank’s various portfolios.
  • Responsible for evaluating compliance with regulatory guidelines and bank policies.
  • Assessing the condition and quality of individual credits based on financial, collateral, and documentation analysis.
  • Determining the appropriate risk rating on accounts according to current Lending Policy.
  • Participates in special projects and targeted risk assessments as directed by department management.
  • Interacts with relationship managers, credit administration, loan servicing, and other bank employees in the process of performing loan review risk assessment due diligence.
  • Conduct independent credit reviews of assigned loans and portfolios in accordance with the annual plan.
  • Complete reviews of highly complex transactions in a time efficient manner.
  • For each relationship reviewed, analyze credit quality; sufficiency of credit and collateral documentation; proper approval by the loan officer and loan committees.
  • Adherence to loan agreement covenants; compliance with internal policies and procedures and laws and regulations, and the appropriateness and timeliness of identification of problem loans; incorporate findings into a written review with a recommended risk rating.
  • Prepare credit-related reports to assist senior management in risk related matters as needed.
  • Attend Director’s Loan Committee meetings.
  • Prepare periodic credit reviews on the assigned portfolio of CRE loans. This task includes financial spreads of borrower’s and guarantor’s financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, credit analysis summary, and risk rating recommendation.
  • Review any post covenant items to ensure proper follow-up and execution is documented.
  • Timely collection of financial statements and tax returns and follow up on loan covenants and conditions as set per credit approval.
  • Preparation of credit memos for problem loans, modifications and REO
  • Review loan portfolio to determine level of credit risk.
  • Complete analytical research on the loan portfolio includes concentration analysis, stress testing, exception trends, etc.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or information technology preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as an Analyst or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; conditional statements, lookups, array formulas, pivot tables, external data source imports, and basic VBA macros.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Access and IBM COGNOS Report Studio; report building, front-end user interface design, custom functions, and query design.
  • Familiar with Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) concepts, quantitative/qualitative factors, time series data, and forecasting.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles, particularly regarding interest accruals and general ledger monitoring.

Computer & Software Skills

  • Must have foundational computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook email and calendaring) and the Internet
