This position is primarily responsible for troubleshooting and providing input for the continuous improvement of Maintainer’s Multiplexed/CAN and 12-volt electrical systems. This position works under the supervision of a Manufacturing Manager and works closely with the engineering departments to understand the system structures and intent of the body and chassis electrical systems. The Electrical Troubleshooting Specialist also provides support to Manufacturing by wiring bodies and chassis as directed by the Manufacturing Manager. This position will also provide guidance/training related to electrical system changes, chassis electrical changes, and electrical documentation available for production and customers. Effectively works within a team environment and can work with limited supervision and make routine decisions about quality and safety of work performed.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrates the ability to effectively troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical problems on CAN and 12-volt point to point electrical systems. Installs these same electrical systems in chassis, bodies and on cranes. Understands what CAN system programming is and can install program updates.
  2. Knowledgeable with wiring DC 12 volt and 24 volt systems as well as AC 120 volt and 240 volt systems. Tests parts and associated systems to ensure they are working accurately.
  3. Demonstrates proficiency in reading and understanding electrical diagrams, schematics, and wire harness drawings.
  4. Serves as a liaison between Manufacturing and both Product Development and Product Engineering for electrical systems. Seeks to improve communication and collaboration between Manufacturing and Engineering as it concerns electrical systems. Identifies opportunities for improvements in design, documentation, and materials used in the installation process.
  5. Uses a laptop to change chassis parameters related to speed control, PTO function and interlocks, Engine remote start/stop, upload chassis logic programs for proper function for use with service and lube body wiring systems.
  6. Participates in electrical system product improvement, reliability and best practice discussions to reduce product issues related to electrical wiring. Stays up-to-date with chassis model year changes and attends available training as needed.
  7. Learns and trains others on the installation of CAN technology.
  8. Operates and maintains all tools (including air and electrical power tools) in a safe and reliable manner.
  9. Maintains a clean and safe work environment and wears all required personal protective safety equipment. Works at different workstations as needs require.
  10. Works under the supervision of manufacturing management. Asks for technical guidance and assistance from engineers and electrical technicians as required.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned from manufacturing management.
Qualification Requirements:

Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems relating to mechanic service, crane, and lubrication trucks.

Education, Reasoning Ability, and/or Experience:

Prefer a two year mechanical design technology degree or prior ASE certification and 3 years of manufacturing or automotive electrical experience. Minimum experience of two years is required or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Able to utilize a tape measure, multimeter, electrical test light, and read electrical schematics and diagrams effectively. Must have technical ability to meet customer specifications.

Ability to understand standard drawing practices when troubleshooting systems, assembling wire harnesses, and installing electrical components and wiring.

The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply problem solving techniques.

Ability to specify, develop, program, and modify manufacturer specific CAN programming software.

Math

Must have knowledge and an understanding of the following mathematical expressions and be proficient in applying them to the general responsibilities of the positions. Math requirements, but not limited to: calculations with Ohm’s Law; calculations of wattage, voltage, and amperage.

Communication and Language skills:

Ability to read and comprehend technical instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write moderately detailed correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Ability to maintain a positive work attitude while performing assigned duties.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Required to stand and use hands and fingers to grasp and hold objects, tools and or controls, likewise reach with arms and hands. Maintainer is a custom manufacturer which requires employees at times to work in awkward positions while performing these assigned duties. The employee is required to walk, sit, and talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is also at times, exposed to fumes and or airborne particulate.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Successfully completes annual overhead crane and hoist training, and Crane operators training requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
