Location: Hybrid (candidates will be onsite in Greenfield for at least 3-6 months)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Commercial Credit Analyst reports to the Commercial Credit Officer and will be primarily responsible for preparing written analyses of new commercial loan requests and reviewing the work of the junior analysts. This position also has responsibility for training and mentoring any Jr. Commercial Credit Analyst(s). The Sr. Commercial Credit Analyst will also have various portfolio management functions, reporting, commercial appraisal tasks and financial statement tracking duties. The senior analyst will be asked to assist in training credit analysts as they join the commercial credit department. This position will be consulting with all members of the commercial loan team including lenders, documentation specialists on a daily basis and person must have both strong written and verbal communication skills. Analysts may periodically be asked to meet with borrowers at the request of the loan officer to better understand the underwriting/credit structure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

  • Training and mentoring Jr. Commercial Credit Analyst(s)
  • Preparation of formal loan proposals, underwriting and analyses of commercial loan requests
  • Work with Accounting Department in preparing and maintaining commercial loan portfolio reports and other “Dashboard” management reports for review by Senior Management/Board.
  • Preparation of Watchlist/Classified quarterly reviews for loans risk rated Substandard (RR “7”) and Special Mention (RR “6”)
  • Ensure compliance with all GSB Commercial Loan Policy in preparing loan proposals
  • Maintain the Financial Statement Database and track receipt of all current financial information
  • Maintain the Commercial Appraisal Log and manage appraisal ordering and reviews

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS (DUTIES):

  • Spread financial statements using the Sageworks Analyst software, analyze the cash flow, review ratios and include results in underwriting of written loan proposals.
  • Analyze financial statements, provide income statement/balance sheet analysis, explain impact of balance sheet changes/trends, discuss margins/trends in income statement
  • Determine Total GSB exposure, assemble relationship data on existing loans/deposits, report on borrower background, analyze cash flow, gather industry data, identify key credit risks
  • Run RPM profitability model software for new loans and existing relationships and include results in the loan proposals
  • Prepare formal loan proposals/loan reviews for distribution at weekly Commercial loan department meetings.
  • Run credit bureau reports on all guarantors of commercial relationships
  • Evaluate financial stability, debt service capacity, management strength, collateral coverage, loan structure, risk assessment, economic environment and industry concerns and possible effects on the commercial relationship.
  • Assess the collateral position of each borrower, utilizing real estate and equipment appraisals and financial statements as part of the overall analysis of the credit relationship.
  • Assist in assigning risk ratings for commercial loans and commitments including affirmation or change of rating. Risk ratings determine credit risk associated with the credit relationship; adjust ratings when critical changes occur to profitability, financial condition, collateral, personal resources (upward/improved conditions/downward-deteriorating conditions)
  • Train and assist Jr. Commercial Credit Analyst to setup/maintain Commercial Credit Files
  • Assist the Commercial Credit Officer in coordinating and preparing for external and internal audits and Loan Review
  • Follow GSB Commercial Loan Policy on new and existing relationships in loan proposals/reviews
  • Monitor commercial loan policy exceptions and insure these are entered into Fiserv/Cleartouch system
  • Assist loan servicing in answering accountant confirmations/credit inquiries on commercial customers

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area with ability to interpret and understand financial statements.
  • A minimum of 3 years Financial Analysis experience preferably with a bank or financial institution
  • Some prior portfolio management or equivalent related work experience preferred
  • Good analytical skills with a solid focus on accuracy
  • Ability to work independently when problem solving and underwriting loan proposals, and with members of the entire commercial loan team as necessary
  • Must possess clear and concise oral/written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workflow
  • Must be well organized with good time management and project management skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Office WORD, EXCEL applications
  • Experience using financial statement spreadsheet software, Sageworks, Moody’s, other

ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

  • Experience/knowledge of Commercial Loan Platform software, i.e. BakerHill, JackHenry, a plus
  • Ability to review/evaluate commercial and investment property appraisals
  • Experience with Fiserv/Cleartouch platform commercial loan software a plus
