Our customer provides a leading mobile student engagement platform and aims to improve student success in higher education worldwide. Their products connect students with their peers and faculty, allow easy management of courses and finances, and help 700+ institutions strengthen their campus community.

They are in the process of transitioning an existing .NET monolith to Golang microservices and containers. This person will be responsible for design and high-level technical leadership on the back-end of the new build and shouldn't be afraid to get their hands on the code. This will include the application code and creating/implementing CI/CD processes, monitoring, alerting, and other systems to support this new build.

They are a global, remote-first team that has completed four acquisitions in the past year. Having built a diverse and world-class team, they are poised for their next growth phase.

They are looking to hire an experienced Engineer with a strong background in creating SaaS services across multiple geographic locations. As a Staff Engineer, you will play a crucial role in architecting, implementing, and maintaining robust solutions, ensuring application scalability, reliability, and security.

Your work will directly impact all the engineers on the team and the success of millions of students worldwide.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • You'll take end-to-end ownership over the systems being built and heavily influence the product roadmap and architecture decisions.
  • Develop core platform services and back-end APIs while breaking a monolith into microservices
  • Strong interest in developing quality infrastructure and process

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience owning multi-month-long projects, including communication of progress, dependencies, and risk mitigation directly with stakeholders and partners
  • Solid background in software development with substantial experience in Golang.
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and best practices.
  • Experience operating with Amazon AWS
  • Experience building highly available, secure, and cost-efficient infrastructure that utilizes a variety of technologies and data stores, including private cloud networking topologies, load-balanced web applications.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (IaC) tools such as Terraform.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Elastic).
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Work from or at least adhere to the Eastern Time Zone.

PLUSES:

  • Experience working in enterprise technology space, with a higher level of compliance on security (e.g. in education or healthcare technology)
  • AWS Solutions Architect/DevOps Engineer certification, or similar for other providers
  • Experience leading Infrastructure projects
  • Experience working with a remote or distributed team
  • Experience with migrating from monolith architecture to service architecture
  • .NET and/or Python experience
