About the Role:

As a Data Engineering Manager at Perpay, you will lead data engineers and work closely with data scientists and analysts to help drive our vision of building data products and insights for our stakeholders and customers, accelerating Perpay's mission to create inclusive financial products that improve the lives of our members. We are actively investing in the right people, data, and infrastructure to support this vision. With the launch of a credit card, we have a rapidly increasing need for data engineering resources to meet modeling, reporting and analytical requirements. This position is tailored for an experienced professional who can seamlessly transition between the responsibilities of a Data Engineering Manager and a Senior Data Engineer, based on their unique skill set and aspirations.

We are searching for a Data Engineering Manager who is a quantitative, critical thinker with a passion for data and the capacity to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Our ideal candidate has experience in serving data-driven solutions at scale, crossing multiple functional areas, driving organizational efficiency, and managing a rapidly-growing data team. Applicants should be highly motivated and comfortable with managing multiple projects with multiple stakeholders in a diverse array of subject matter.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of data engineers that are focused on illuminating the strategy and insights within the data collected in our data platform by batch and near real-time processes
  • Partner with data producers in understanding data sources, enable data contracts, and define the data models that drive analytics
  • Implement data governance strategies and practices such as metadata management, data lineage, and data catalogs
  • Communicate across business areas to serve automated data solutions at scale
  • Analyze and resolve complex challenges around data and tools. Optimize analytical workflows by identifying opportunities and automating them
  • Be the SME for the data, pipeline design, and other related big data and programming technologies
  • Implement solutions to bring together application data generated by distributed first and third-party systems driving our centralized data lake
  • Contribute to a modern data architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, and data quality

What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative/technical field (Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry)
  • Strong leadership skills developed with a minimum 5 years' experience leading data engineering teams
  • Ability to analyze and estimate needed resource capacity needed both with a current state focus and longer-term roadmap view in mind
  • A proven track record of promoting team's success by driving roadmap creation and execution, facilitating technical design, monitoring execution of work through production delivery
  • Experience with architectural design and ability to drive consensus on design and approach, including frameworks, languages, and build/buy conversations
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL/NoSQL, relational databases, Docker, Python environments in Linux-based systems
  • Expert level understanding of cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and large scale data processing using traditional and distributed systems with tools like Airflow and Spark
  • High level of motivation and empathy in mentoring teammates and creating an environment that is conducive to their success and growth
