Purpose of Position:

Hexagon’s Mining division is looking for a Hardware Architect to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing the system requirements and architectural design for solutions required by our mining customers. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of products as well as interact with a wide range of internal and external customers. This role demands your involvement in all stages of the product development cycle, where you will provide architectural expertise through activities such as requirements elicitation, system architectural design, systems integration, and the assessment of system verification compliance. Your success is highly dependent upon collaboration with a cross-functional product development team to identify and mitigate risk, and to ensure that the design meets its functional, quality, schedule, and cost targets. You thrive on seeing exciting projects through to completion while exercising proven planning, collaboration, technical leadership, and product development skills.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

As a Hardware Architect, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the high-level technical aspects of projects in collaboration with other domain Architects, Product Managers, and a team of subject matter experts
  • Evaluate customer requirements and operational use cases to define and decompose system requirements to lower-level design requirements
  • Develop Hardware system architectural designs collaboratively with your Solutions, Systems and Software Architects, including conceptual, behavioral, and structural views, critical component selection, interface descriptions, failure modes and effects analyses, etc.
  • Continuous evaluation of technical risks within the projects and proactively working with the team to mitigate risk
  • Systems integration planning and coordination
  • Assess cross-domain dependencies, including the simulation and modeling of system components to allow data-driven decisions for optimal system performance
  • Ensure Quality Assurance verification compliance of the design with the system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing competing business requirements such as cost and time to market
  • Complete system and product analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement and application of Architectural Engineering processes, best practices, and tools
Knowledge and Experience - Required:
  • B.Sc. in Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years’ experience in a high-technology, product development environment focused on hardware and embedded systems
  • 5+ years in an Architectural or Systems Engineering related role
  • Proven understanding and execution of traditional architectural and systems engineering principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge and Experience - Desired:
  • Well versed in developing and managing verifiable requirements for hardware and embedded systems
  • Experience in robust product design for mining environments
  • Experience with architectural design tools, such as Enterprise Architect (EA), etc.
  • Experience in product/system integration, verification, and validation
  • Application of reliability engineering principles, including FMEA, FTA, MTBF, and RCA
  • Familiar with mining applications and solutions
Travel:
  • Some international travel may be required.
