REPORTS TO: Public School Therapy Coordinator

LOCATION: Roselle, NJ and East Orange, NJ

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts initial screenings and/or evaluations using formal and informal assessments; interprets and analyzes data; provides written reports of findings
  • Identifies and implements long and short-term treatment plans, either individually or in a group setting or indirectly as a consultant, including educationally relevant goals and methods to achieve identified goals within a given time frame
  • Submits to appropriate source written reports such as client reevaluations/ updates, anecdotal notes, clinic notes, special interim reports, and other related information using required formats/ forms; maintains service-related records following billing, reimbursement, and procurement procedures
  • Coordinates and integrates occupational therapy with other therapy and educational programs
  • Develops home or classroom programs for specific clients providing printed handouts or instructions; provides direct training for appropriate home or classroom personnel
  • Participates in conferences, meetings, and other planning sessions concerning individual children; recommends occupational therapy activities as part of the total treatment plan
  • May design, fabricate, adjust, or make minor repairs to therapeutic equipment or splints for individuals and participate in ordering equipment for home, school, or community use.
  • Reviews and revises treatment programs as required; terminates treatment service when appropriate
  • Identifies own education and supervision needs; attends educational courses to maintain and update knowledge and skills; may conduct in-service education to staff and team members
  • Initiates contact with direct supervisor to report any concerns regarding safety and appropriate care, schedule changes, new referrals
  • Directs, supervises and assesses the work of COTA and/or affiliation students
  • May travel to locations away from the program center
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Program Director or Supervisor

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and independence in the use of varied treatment approaches, knowledge of child development
  • Ability to relate and treat without bias or prejudice developmentally disabled clients
  • Build and promote teamwork
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, parents, staff, supervisors, administrators and other professionals
  • Establish and maintain proper working relationships with clients, parents, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Travel to various locations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and graduation from an AOTA-accredited occupational therapy program and successful completion of AOTA certification Examination
  • Registration by AOTA as an Occupational Therapist
  • NJ licensure as an Occupational Therapist
  • NJ Department of Education Certification as an Occupational Therapist
  • Fingerprint examination and approval by the state of NJ
  • Transportation required


FLSA CLASSIFICATION/WORKING HOURS: Exempt. Employee is expected to work until all major projects and related tasks are completed to the satisfaction of their Program Director or Supervisor. Some early morning, evening, and weekend work is expected. Employees are paid a set weekly salary exceeding the federally required minimum and are not eligible to earn overtime compensation.
