Job description

Established in 2005 Texas Muslim Women's foundation empowers, promotes, and supports all women and their families—a mission that ultimately creates stronger communities. Our programs encourage peace in the home and the community through comprehensive prevention and intervention strategy.

Job Responsibilities

The On Call Shelter Attendant oversees facility activities that enable residents to achieve their stated stay goals.

  • Answer and log incoming HOTLINE calls
  • Follows up with the Social Services Program Manager and Case Managers as well as contacts with appropriate agencies to ensure that clients' needs are being met
  • Oversees client's and volunteers' activities during shifts
  • Documents all client violations of house rules
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of clients through conflict intervention and resolution by providing first aid and obtaining the assistance of police or ambulance as appropriate and necessary
  • Administers tokens under shelters guidelines and maintains a daily log documenting shelter activities and conditions
  • Secures the facility and grounds for the safety of staff and clients and the protection of property
  • Participates in opportunities for professional development, including classes, conferences, and retreats as schedules
  • Monitor clients' self-administration of medication as needed
  • Promote excellent customer services
  • De-escalate crises
  • Assist with special projects
  • Supports multiple sites within the program
  • Other duties assigned
Education and Experience Qualifications Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six months of experience in the human services field, preferably with homeless persons; experience working with victims.
  • Being bilingual is a plus.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Ability to identify problems that are not easily defined and resolve them before the situation escalates
  • Ability to motivate and engage clients residing in the facility
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and cultural responsiveness

Schedule:

  • On call
  • Weekend, weekdays, night, and holiday availability
  • Part-time/PRN

Required licenses or certifications:

  • Complete background check
  • Proof of auto liability insurance
  • Driver's License

This position starts at $17 per hour.
