Gifted Teacher

The Gifted Teacher is responsible for all aspects of gifted services throughout the school, including ensuring that gifted and high-performing scholars are provided extensions to the existing Common Core-aligned curriculum and are given regular opportunities for project/problem based learning.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports Instructional and Socio-emotional Needs
- Develops and facilitates Project-Based Learning activities across grade levels
- Guides the development of a sound research-based school policy to support gifted instruction
- Works with administration and with groups of teachers to bring differentiation into routine planning for classroom lessons
- Implementing and modeling a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of gifted students
- Design or select appropriate instructional modifications for gifted students and coordinating these activities with other teachers as appropriate
- Provides direct consultation with classroom teachers to support the use of effective teaching strategies for gifted students in all classrooms
- Selects, requisitions, and inventories books, materials and equipment as needed for instructional or consultation purposes
- Identifies gifted students needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and providing support to meet the unique socio-emotional developmental needs of gifted students
Collaboration and Communication
- Keeps management and the school board well informed about the status of the school’s services for gifted learners, any achievements, and any emerging needs or other factors to be taken into account
- Works with teachers to ensure parents are kept informed and are consulted about what is happening for their children
- Develops and publishes a monthly newsletter updating parents on upcoming events, student presentations, enrichment opportunities etc.
Professional Development
- Ensures that PD relating to gifted learners forms part of the school’s ongoing PD cycle, and ensures teachers are kept informed about one-off events of special interest such as conferences in this field
- Maintains his or her own ongoing professional development in this field through: courses, networking, reading and conference attendance.
- Develops PBL expertise in teachers/coaches within the school compliance
- Develops and monitors Gifted Differentiated Learning Plans
- Evaluates student progress, keeps accurate records and prepares reports on a regular basis as required by law, district policy, administrative regulations and gifted education program plan
- Provides appropriate schedules for exceptional students involving school personnel as required.
- Participating on evaluation teams for gifted students as appropriate.
- Performs such other duties as assigned

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education (2.5+ GPA)
- Have the ability to pass an Atlanta Public Schools background check and obtain a GaPSC-issued clearance certificate
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS:
- Clear and Renewable Teaching Certificate required
- Endorsement or Certification in Gifted Education required
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years gifted education experience
- Project Based Learning experience preferred
- Experience in project management, and ability to prioritize tasks
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:
- Compensation aligned with The Kindezi Schools’ Teacher salary schedule
