Summary of the position: The Recreational Therapist will plan, direct, and coordinate recreation-based treatment for persons served (ages 8 and older) residing on the campus of George Junior Republic in Grove City, PA.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

BA/BS or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation or Leisure with an option in therapeutic recreation, or some combination.

Licensure

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist credential or meets credential requirements to obtain the certification within three months of employment.

Years of Experience

Professional experience defined by the CTRS and supports the CTRS certification requirements

Computer Experience

Microsoft Suite

Other

Must be well-organized and customer focused.

Must be able to work with diverse populations

Must be detail-oriented



Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Duty

Therapeutic Relationships

  • Develop professional/therapeutic relationship with person served.
  • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.

Assessment

  • Apply knowledge to determine diagnostic and developmental characteristics, impairments and/or disabilities.
  • Develop assessment tools to establish outcomes.
  • Gather primary data across functional domains (e.g. sensory, cognitive, social, physical, affective, leisure, etc.).
  • Gather secondary data (e.g. support systems).
  • Use findings from data gathered to determine strengths and limitations.
  • Communicate assessment findings to interdisciplinary team.

Therapy

  • Implement RT practice with person(s) served.
  • Create goals and objectives building on strengths of person(s) served.
  • Complete therapy session summaries and provide them to the treatment team.
  • Comply with professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
  • Provide a safe environment

Program Development

  • Develop therapeutic groups based on therapeutic recreation needs assessment and the implementation thereof.
  • Design programs based on the needs, abilities, and interests of the person(s) served.
  • Determine activity modifications
  • Select intervention techniques, approaches, and modalities
  • Educate interdisciplinary team on interventions utilized

Evaluation

  • Evaluation interventions to determine effectiveness

Treatment Planning

  • Actively participate with the treatment team in the planning, implementation and progress of the person served.

Documentation

  • Complete documentation/entry into the electronic health record as required.

Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

1. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

2. Must be able to perform CPR and safety and security procedures in the field.

3. Must be able to work at various locations across the campus of GJR, including both inside and outside.
