Job Summary: The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of diesel engines and related systems in a variety of vehicles and equipment. This includes diagnosing issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring vehicles meet safety and performance standards. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, a thorough understanding of diesel systems, and experience with heavy-duty vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnose and Repair:
  • Inspect and diagnose engine malfunctions, mechanical issues, and electrical problems using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and electrical components.
  1. Preventative Maintenance:
  • Perform regular maintenance tasks including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, and other routine services to ensure vehicles operate efficiently.
  • Conduct safety inspections and recommend necessary repairs or adjustments.
  1. Testing and Quality Assurance:
  • Test repaired equipment for proper operation and compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meet quality standards and safety regulations.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and labor hours.
  • Communicate findings, repairs, and recommendations to supervisors or customers as needed.
  1. Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices related to diesel engines and systems.
  • Use specialized tools and equipment for diagnostics and repairs.
  1. Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow all safety protocols and workplace regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental standards and proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or trade certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably in a fleet or heavy equipment environment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL may be required depending on the job.
