Job DescriptionGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Employee will learn to perform and assist other linemen in the construction, repair and maintenance of electric distribution and transmission lines, learn to inspect, repair, maintain, rebuild, construct, and install the equipment and apparatus associated with the Power Quality Section facilities.
GENERAL DUTIES
The normal duties may include but are not limited to:
- Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.
- Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision will assist and/or direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Line Technician "C" and all lower classifications within the subject line of progression or other duties with which the employee is familiar.
- Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.
- Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification. Demonstrate such competency via performance of job duties and training and testing programs administered at intervals prescribed by Bowlin Group to assure correct classification of employees.
- Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
- Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.
- Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
- Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
- Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude.
- Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Duties which may include, but are not limited to:
- Employee will perform all duties of a Ground person.
- Employee will learn to climb all poles, towers, ladders and other structures.
- Employee will learn the proper use of, and care for, tools, tackle and other line construction equipment.
- Employee will learn to install, remove and maintain cross arms, braces, pins, insulators, secondary racks, brackets, guys, grounds, ground wire and associated line hardware.
- Employee will learn to perform duties from aerial lifts, derricks, poles, towers and other elevated structures.
- Employee will assist senior linemen in the installation, removal and maintenance of lightning arrestors, cutouts, switches, re-closer and other protective and sectionalizing devices.
- Employee will aid senior linemen in the installation, removal and relocation of primary, secondary, service, neutral and other conductors.
- Employee will aid senior linemen in splicing conductors, using compression and bolted connectors and other similar devices.
- Employee will learn the proper wiring connections of the various secondary and primary terminations on transformers.
- Employee will learn to take accurate measurements with voltmeter and ammeter.
- Employee will learn to distinguish between energized and de-energized conductors.
- Employee will assist senior linemen in the installation, removal and maintenance of poles, transformers, regulators, capacitors and their associated connections.
- Employee will learn to make load and voltage tests on electrical devices on both primary and secondary conductors.
- Employee will learn to install voltage and current recording instruments.
- Employee will assist in re-fusing and repairing connections on conductors and devices.
- Employee will learn to open and close switching devices, under direction.
- Employee will assist in investigation of customer complaints.
- Employee will learn electrical terms and apparatus associated with utility work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY INTO:
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.
- Employee must meet all qualifications as required by Federal State and Municipal regulations as applies to this position.
- Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
- Employee must be thoroughly familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly see that they are enforced.
- Employee must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
- Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
- Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
- Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include work at heights and heavy manual labor.
- Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
- Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
- Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
- Employee must have demonstrated ability to carry through work assignments, and conduct himself/herself in a manner that encourages cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.
- Employee must have demonstrated proficiency in the ability to perform the duties associated with the lower classification(s) within the line of progression.
- Employee must be able to lead, direct, and train other employees assigned to work with him/her to obtain satisfactory work results.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Employee must meet and be proficient in all the qualifications of Ground person.
- Employee must have at least three (3) months experience as a Ground person, or have graduated from Accredited Lineman Program.
- Employee must be willing to work in the vicinity of energized conductors and equipment.
- Employee must know how to properly tie, splice, bind and fasten with rope.
- Employee must know the proper set-up of aerial lifts, derricks or other vehicles and equipment.
- Employee must know the proper procedure for loading, unloading and set-up of wire stringing equipment.
- Employee must know electrical terms and apparatus associated with utility work.
- Employee must know the proper use and care of electrical protective equipment.
- Employee must know the proper communication procedure in the use of two-way radio equipment.
- Employee must know how to take accurate measurements with rulers and tape measures and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Employee works 4 / 10 hour workdays each week.
- Employee must have manual dexterity in both hands working across from each other frequently.
- Employee must be able to stand continuously.
- Employee must be able to lift and carry items frequently from 20-40 lbs.
- Employee must be able to perform pushing and pulling activities frequently from 40 to 60 lbs.
- Employee must be able to kneel, bend and squat over frequently.
- Employee must be able to twist and turn frequently.
- Employee must be able to climb poles up to height of 30 ft and be able to work from belt on pole for extended periods several times in one work day performing various tasks holding and using tools that weigh up to 5 to 10 lbs.
- Employee works frequently with arms extended above shoulders.
- Employee must be able to drive automatic transmission (aerial lift) truck frequently.
