SUMMARY

Set up and perform a variety of Punch Press work including all jobs and all phases of tooling, dies and machine timing. Able to do own tool and die repair work and work in new dies and tooling. Diagnosis and troubleshoot malfunctions and makes or recommends corrections. Has responsible for setup, maintenance, and operation of multiple machine groupings. Inspects and approves set-ups with guidance from the Quality Control Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (others may be assigned):

  • Set-up and perform a variety of punch press work involving the use of progressive, compound, combination, complicated forming and drawing dies, adjust air, mechanical knockout devices, length of ram stroke, and automatic feed, diagnosis and troubleshooting of malfunctions and make or recommend corrections.
  • Determines when dies need sharpening and repair.
  • Perform limited work-in on new dies and tooling.
  • Perform some preventative maintenance as prescribed in Punch Press Setup Procedure.
  • Limited knowledge of parts of the Punch Press Machine (tooling, components, feed, etc.)
  • Operate, load, and adjust up to two punch press machines at or above established standard rate while maintaining quality standard of parts.
  • Performs inspections of various parts using varied measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, gauges, digital comparator, etc.
  • Responsible for quality of parts, reports faulty machine operation or faulty parts to supervisor, lead person or Quality Control Department.
  • Responsible for machine reporting paperwork and other paperwork as assigned.
  • Responsible for the daily housekeeping of assigned area.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (others may be assigned):

  • May instruct trainees in various areas of Punch Press Set up.
  • Responsible for assisting operators with loading coils and making minor adjustments on tooling.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experienced in use of measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
  • Math skills required
  • Common sense
  • Good attendance record is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED helpful. Employee must have minimum of three (3) years experience in set up and operation of similar punch presses.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

Ability to interpret and read blueprints and other required documents.

  • Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks
  • Accuracy and detail orientations.
  • Dexterity and preciseness required to operate gauges and testing equipment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form required. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, and fellow employees.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequent contact with machine oils and possible sharp edges of parts and/or materials.

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; finger dexterity, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Position involves frequent lifting of up to 30 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Salary info:

$17 - $20 / hr
