Job Summary:

The Personal Care Aide will provide essential care and support to residents in a mental health personal care home. This role involves assisting residents with daily living activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and supporting their emotional and mental health needs. The ideal candidate will have a compassionate nature, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to residents, fostering a positive and supportive environment.
  • Monitor and report any changes in residents’ physical or mental health to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with meal preparation, serving, and feeding residents as needed.
  • Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and document accordingly.
  • Support residents in participating in recreational and therapeutic activities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment by performing light housekeeping duties.
  • Follow care plans and collaborate with the healthcare team to provide holistic care to residents.
  • Uphold residents' rights and maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to stay updated with best practices in mental health care.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and provide de-escalation support as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Personal Care Aide or completion of a relevant training program.
  • Previous experience in a mental health care setting is preferred.
  • Understanding of basic healthcare practices and principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic demeanor.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and provide crisis intervention support.
  • Basic knowledge of mental health conditions and appropriate care strategies.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting, transferring, and assisting residents.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a mental health personal care home setting.
  • May require standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases and challenging behaviors.
