General Summary: A non-exempt position responsible for entering information into the physician billing system in a timely manner; reviewing data for accuracy; resolve outstanding account balances.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Reviews charges, diagnosis, and procedure codes for accuracy in documentation, and applies appropriate modifiers in timely and accurately into system.
- Verifies and/or updates patient demographics including payer details.
- Applies payer specific guidelines as appropriate.
- Maintains charge lag timely and meets goals. Communicates delayed or missing charges to appropriate team members.
- Exhibits strong communication skills and positive attitude with internal (team members, other departments, and leadership) and external customers (patients, insurance companies, vendors, and employers) to resolve concerns or issues.
- Collaborates with billing staff and directs customer complaints to management for immediate response if unable to resolve.
- Escalates high priority and/or coding issues and questions to appropriate team members.
- Reviews end of month outstanding charges.
- Provides input and feedback to management in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures.
- Selects priorities and organizes work and time to meet them in order of importance.
- Monitors LCD, NCD, and CCI edits to promote clean claim submission.
- Other duties assigned by management.
Education/Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; Training in medical coding or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum one-year related experience or advanced related training beyond high school. The ability to obtain a coding certification within 24 months is highly desirable.
