Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join our team. This role will be pivotal in enhancing business operations through the development and implementation of automated solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business intelligence, data analysis, and automation, with proficiency in scripting languages and BI tools. Experience in federal agency environments or similar settings is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement automated solutions to streamline business processes across multiple client suboffices.
  • Assess user requirements and provide design input for enhancing eRA grants management systems through automation.
  • Develop and deploy scripts using SQL, R, Python, and BI tools like Tableau/Power BI/Excel for creating reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Perform data analysis and apply advanced analytics techniques such as machine learning and NLP to extract insights from extramural grant and administrative datasets.
  • Provide technical expertise in evaluating and recommending software solutions to improve business operations and processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Manage and support project planning, ensuring adherence to milestones, deadlines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain project documentation and track overall progress, reporting status updates to stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison between IT and business units, facilitating effective communication and understanding of technical requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to respond to inquiries and implement policies.
  • Support the development of training materials and compliance documents related to data sharing and policy implementation.
  • Assist in the publication and management of Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) in collaboration with staff.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and automation enhancements based on data-driven analysis.
  • Document automation scripts, processes, and procedures following industry standards and information security protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance and subject matter expertise in software solutions for client strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Evaluate existing systems and recommend technical solutions to optimize integration with NIH data systems like IMPACII, eRA, and QVR.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis and program evaluations as required.
  • Develop metrics and common data elements to monitor and improve activities across projects.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks to meet strategic goals and deadlines.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical findings and project progress to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related field.
  • 3 years experience in business intelligence, data analysis, and report/dashboard development.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, scripting languages (R/Python), and BI tools (Tableau/Power BI/Excel).
  • Experience with machine learning, NLP, and advanced analytics techniques preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a federal agency or similar environment is advantageous.
