Trinity is currently hiring a full-time Family Peer Advocate. The Mobile Family Support Center emanates from United States Families First Legislation mandating New York State to offer innovative ways to reduce institutional foster care placements. The staff of the Mobile Family Support Center work intensively with kinship families in which children and youth are placed to anticipate and strategize methods to avoid conflict and discord from escalating to a point of no return. During hours the Mobile Family Support Center is not deescalating home-based calls, the staff will be stationed in key neighborhood locations throughout Albany County to provide family-strengthening consultations, information and referral.

The team is comprised of a Team Leader/Clinician, Service Navigator, Family Peer Advocate, and Domestic Violence Advocate.

What You Will Be Doing as the Family Peer Advocate?

The Family Peer Advocate will function as part of the team of the Mobile Family Crisis Center to provide families with support through advocacy, guidance and linkage and referral services to prevent out of home placement and promote positive relationships for all family members.

  • As part of a team, provide support, advocacy, crisis intervention and linkage and referral services as needed.
  • Must be responsive to a family's call for help when a child is involved in an emotional or behavioral health need that could lead to the disruption in the home.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with families, service providers, funding sources and other staff.
  • Actively communicate with team members and collaterals for updates and provide any pertinent information regarding visits/ or lack of contact on a regular basis.
  • Participate in case reviews, service provider meetings, trainings and staff development opportunities, and contribute to the program's continuous improvement.
  • Encourage and empower parent participation in related programs in order to achieve needed outcomes for their children.
  • Ensure timely completion (weekly) and submission of all required documentation.
  • Must be able to flex time to accommodate family's availability and crisis needs as they occur.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Lived experience with any of Albany County DCYF services such as CPS, Prevention, Probation or Children's Mental Health.
  • AA, BA preferred and minimum of one-year direct experience working with children and families.
  • Experience with children/social work field and excellent documentation skills preferred.
  • Flexible work hours to accommodate families and staff
  • Team worker.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Salary: $40,000
