New Paradigm For Education (NPFE) is a non-profit Charter Management Organization (CMO) composed of educational practitioners, community advocates, and business leaders who have dedicated years of service to children. We specialize in maximizing student learning potential through proven education practices and managing all phases of school design, planning, and program implementation. NPFE is on a mission to ensure that all students in Michigan achieve at the highest levels, supporting educational transformation through increased student achievement, fiscal responsibility, and community support.


What You’ll Do

NPFE seeks a Parent & Community Liaison to establish communication, relationships and maintain mutual understanding among school, community and home. Grounded in the network vision and under the direction of the building principal, the role of the Parent & Community Liaison is part of a comprehensive effort to increase the academic achievement of all students, to encourage families to support their child’s school experience, and to lower existing barriers to parental/family participation.

Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Previous experience working with students and families


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, administrators, and the community at large

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

  • Fluency in Spanish required (NPCP only)


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute programs and initiatives to enhance services and strengthen relationships between school and home

  • Establish communication, relationships and maintain mutual understanding among school, community and home

  • Assist parents with understanding report cards, the student handbooks, assessments, progress reports, etc.

  • Participate in campus-based outreach activities, such as curriculum nights, special events, meetings, etc.

  • Assist school with securing important documentation from parents

  • Coordinate academic-based learning opportunities/workshops for parents at flexible times aligned to parent and community need

  • Coordinate volunteer program with continuous recruitment and training for volunteers

  • Create opportunities to involve all parents in the education of their child

  • Support and maintain parent resources and resource centers within the school (i.e. clothes closet, libraries, etc) as applicable

  • Plan and coordinate monthly or bi-monthly academic focused parent workshops

  • Provide information to parents that include educational opportunities and resources in their areas and applicable local and state policies that will influence their education system.

  • Select and purchase appropriate materials for parent checkout and provide training for parents in the use of materials

  • Advertise all parent involvement activities through a variety of media

  • Calculate and keeps accurate data of parental engagement and involvement, including tracking results of efforts

  • Communicate important school related updates and news with parents via school newsletter, school website, and other communication channels

  • Initiate and respond to parent phone calls, emails, and written correspondence related to parent involvement

  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences if/when needed, assisting parents with the understanding of progress reports, report cards, homework assignments, etc.

  • Strengthen home-school relationships by facilitating positive proactive communication between families and educators

  • Engage in professional learning opportunities as directed

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned
