Scope of Position


The Plant Controller will report directly to the Regional Controller and oversee financial operations for the West Chicago plant. This role encompasses monthly financial closing, analytical review, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic support to enhance plant performance. The position is segmented into three primary themes: Insight, Control, and Planning & Reporting.


Responsibilities


Insight:

  • Identify key performance metrics that impact conversion costs and collaborate with operations on reduction opportunities.
  • Analyze plant productivity and conversion costs to drive operational improvements; support A3 process and initiatives.
  • Provide financial leadership for capital management, including preparing financial analysis for cost savings and maintenance projects (AFEs).
  • Utilize forecast data to drive plant actions with flexibility in spending, staffing, and structure.
  • Participate in plant lead team initiatives and support functions such as safety and quality.
  • Evaluate and analyze plant profitability at SKU or mold levels.
  • Educate and train staff on plant financials, spend tracking, and operational levers.
  • Assist Plant Managers during vacancies in other areas.

Control:

  • Support external and internal audits.
  • Ensure accuracy in standard cost monitoring.
  • Assist in managing the physical inventory audit process.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with internal financial controls, operational procedures, and SOX requirements.
  • Focus on inventory control, eliminating monthly count variances, reducing slow-moving/obsolete write-offs, and managing inventory on a FIFO basis.
  • Maintain control of fixed asset inventory, including conducting annual audits.

Planning & Reporting:

  • Oversee the financial closing process for the assigned plant.
  • Act as the scorekeeper for daily labor and variable spend trackers; ensure the team has tools and training to optimize performance.
  • Collaborate with the plant lead team to develop the annual operating budget, monthly forecasts, and full-year projections.
  • Analyze monthly operating variances and provide explanations to the plant team and executive leadership.
  • Offer day-to-day financial and operational support.
  • Conduct manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Develop and review plant standard costing, ensuring product standard costs are reasonable and correlate with plant operations.
  • Assist management with financial analysis and special projects.


Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business required.
  • 8+ years of experience in Accounting/Finance, preferably in the manufacturing industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications.
  • Experience with SAP, Business Information Warehouse, and HFM is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, data-manipulation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to seek resources as needed.
