We are seeking a talented and ambitious gas market analyst with outstanding technical and analytical skills and a commercial mindset to fulfill the growing demand of our research across the Gas & LNG Market and adjacent sectors. The candidate will be responsible for providing natural gas industry expertise focused on the North American gas market, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This role is part of Rystad Energy’s Gas and LNG Market research team that is responsible for global and regional natural gas market research.

The candidate will contribute with analysis of the North American Gas & LNG Market covering upstream, midstream, and downstream markets. The successful candidate will need to be able to combine the analysis of data with input from industry players to build defensible views and predictions. Responsibilities include creating models using data gathered from primary research and proprietary Rystad Energy datasets to forecast supply, demand, and pricing trends for key regional North American markets. The candidate will also be responsible for creating PowerPoint decks and writing research notes showcasing findings from data analysis and market research. LNG consulting projects as well as making presentations to clients regularly will be required.

This analyst role will provide a dynamic and fulfilling opportunity to engage in activities that will provide exposure to the top E&P, OFS and financial companies around the world as well as exposure to projects that are engaging management-level decision-makers from the top companies. Data Analysts are the backbone of the company and are responsible for adding scientific value to our databases, which are used by clients around the world. As a data analyst, you will frequently collaborate with consultants and other analysts from different teams.

We are constantly improving and expanding our products within the Gas & LNG domain, and this new role will be an integral piece of this ongoing development. The candidate will need to contribute to the entire data value chain, from data gathering, processing and analysis, to synthesizing and presenting results. The position will be located in Houston, Texas, USA.

Core Required Experience & Education:

• 2+ years of direct industry experience in market research or competitor intelligence groups at and O&G operator, midstream or LNG companies, consultancy financial institution, or oilfield service company

• University degree (Master or Bachelor) and strong academic track record in the relevant education field (e.g. energy, sciences, economics, engineering, finance, information technology)

• A combination of quantitative skills (Python, SQL, and/or other programming languages) and business acumen is required.

Job Responsibilities:

Primary research of the North American gas market including analysis and forecasting of:

• Develop, maintain and optimize energy data collection and processing workflows including:

• Developments in North American natural gas supply and demand

• The relationship between upstream and midstream for key gas basins

• Developments in the pipeline and liquefaction projects to understand the evolution of trade flows across states and country borders

• The technical and economic feasibility of planned liquefaction and pipeline projects in North America

• Price formation across the different North American price hubs

• Production of quantitative and qualitative research reports and commentaries delivering strategic market outlooks

• Maintain and expand the network of primary intelligence sources in the oil and gas industry

• Active involvement in consulting projects

• Participation at conferences and client site meetings

• Assist with business development activities

Preferred Skills:

• Excellent working knowledge and understanding of the North American gas market and the relationship and flexibility between and across the value chain from upstream to downstream

• Outstanding ability to synthesize data and information coming from multiple sources (quantitative and qualitative)

• Proven ability to handle and process large data sets, preferably using Python or any other commonly used programming language

• Solid proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge in SQL, Python, PowerBI etc. (required)

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on attitude

• Ability to conduct market sizing and forecasting analysis for service markets along with supply and pricing drivers

• Engage with clients to demonstrate our research and analysis and build primary research relationships

• Maintain and expand the network of primary intelligence sources in the oil and gas industry and the wider energy industry

• Travel when needed for research trips, client engagement, and business development support

• Strong writing and presentation skills with ability to present and defend market views and research at public events or client sites

• Self-motivated, proactive and independent as well as a strong team player with a sense of initiative

• Fluent in English
