Overnight Residential Instructor

STAR, Inc., is a provider of residential services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities that is seeking awake third shift staff to provide care and supervision in group home settings. Responsibilities include:
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize needs and desires of residents as first responsibility and shows respect to residents at all times
- Displays an overall commitment to the mission and values of the organization
- Follows all safety guidelines/policies, as well as OSHA guidelines/ Responsible for the general safety of all residents under his/her supervision/Uses On-call system appropriately
- Responsible for the administration and documentation of all medications and treatments as per medication certification as well as policies and procedures.
- Implements all program services and ensures teaching strategies, ensures all documentation occurs as individuals plans indicate
- Ensure all residents practice appropriate grooming and hygiene - this may include assisting with showering and clean up of bodily fluids
- Maintains physical plant to agency standards (condition, cleanliness and home-like atmosphere). Ensures home is clean and neat prior to end of shift
- Provides transportation for residents as needed. - must use personal vehicle while in process of obtaining PSL and/or when company van not available (may include transportation to airports in Hartford or NYC, camp, family home, etc.)
- Maintains professional standard and demeanor /speak with respect to all coworkers, supervisors families and outside contacts
- Ensure that residents are educated on healthy eating, provide unprocessed foods and balanced meal choices
- Ability to teach without "parenting" and encourage the highest degree of independence possible
