As part of our team, you will play a crucial role in the treatment of various diseases using ionizing radiation, while supporting patients through their oncology journey.

Position Overview:

The Radiation Therapist is an integral member of the radiation oncology team, responsible for administering ionizing radiation to treat cancer and other diseases. This role requires a general understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, oncology, radiation physics, and radiation safety practices. In addition to delivering treatments as prescribed by oncologists, the Radiation Therapist will support the psychosocial aspects of cancer care, ensuring a compassionate and patient-centered approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Radiation Therapy Administration: Accurately administer ionizing radiation to patients following the radiation oncologist’s treatment plans, adhering to protocols and ensuring patient safety throughout the treatment process.
  • Patient Care: Support patients throughout their radiation therapy treatment, addressing their concerns and providing guidance to ensure they understand the process and feel comfortable.
  • Treatment Planning Interpretation: Collaborate with radiation oncologists and dosimetrists to interpret and implement treatment plans, ensuring precision in the delivery of treatments.
  • Radiation Safety: Follow established safety protocols and ensure compliance with current rules and regulations related to radiation therapy.
  • Technology Proficiency: Utilize modern radiation therapy delivery systems and imaging tools to ensure accurate targeting of radiation. Operate advanced radiation therapy equipment such as SRS (Stereotactic Radiosurgery), SBRT (Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy), Breath Hold techniques, Superficial Therapy, and High Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient treatment plans and progress using electronic medical record systems, particularly Mosaiq, if applicable.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, medical physicists, and other team members to provide coordinated care and contribute to the development of treatment plans.
  • Psychosocial Support: Provide emotional support to patients and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of cancer treatment.

Education and Certification Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Radiation Therapy Training Program.
  • R.T. (T) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Ongoing maintenance of certification in Radiation Therapy (R.T. (T)).

Experience:

  • Experience in the field of Radiation Oncology is preferred but not required. We welcome applicants at all experience levels.
  • Experience with radiation therapy delivery systems and imaging tools is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with techniques such as Breath Hold, SRS, SBRT, Superficial Therapy, and HDR is required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of modern radiation therapy techniques and delivery systems, as well as radiation safety rules and regulations.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to interpret treatment plans with precision and ensure accurate delivery of radiation.
  • System Knowledge: Familiarity with electronic medical record systems, particularly Mosaiq, is highly preferred.
  • Bilingual Abilities: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
  • Patient-Centered Care: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to provide compassionate care to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
