What is this job all about?

In this role, you will be a key player in individuals with disabilities' journey towards a life of independence. The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is responsible for the direct implementation of behavior support plans, skill-acquisition programming, and other behavioral interventions for consumers served by ABA Services program.

That’s nice, but what will I actually be doing?
The RBT will collect observational daily data under the direct supervision of one or more Board Certified Behavior Analyst(s) (BCBA) and in collaboration with the RBT Supervisor (if not a BCBA but approved by the BACB) applicable Director(s). The RBT will assist with the intervention and implementation of therapeutic programming and assessments, such as functional analyses and/or functional behavior assessments. In addition, the RBT will model interventions outlined within behavior support plans and provide feedback to other implementers/caregivers/parents under the supervision of the BCBA, RBT Supervisor, or applicable Director. The RBT is responsible for maintaining accurate data collection for consumers, including documentation of skills, and for retaining precise records for billing purposes. The implementation of programming with consumers occurs in a variety of settings such as site-based, community, or in-home.

Here's a little more:

  • The RBT is a paraprofessional non-exempt, hourly position.
  • The RBT must have excellent reasoning, analytical, and communication skills. Attention to detail, patience, and perseverance are important characteristics. Individuals served may exhibit impulsive behaviors, poor decision-making, and verbal/physical aggression.
  • The RBT will use behavioral observation and assessment, and crisis intervention and prevention skills on a daily basis.
  • The RBT must be able to provide support to consumers by following positive behavior support plans and interventions.
  • The RBT must be able to remain calm and provide verbal coaching and modeling for other staff/caregivers in crisis situations.

Minimum Experience and Training Qualifications:

  • Minimum required: High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or psychiatric disorders.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field preferred. The candidate has successfully completed a 40-hour training program with a BCBA based on the BACB’s RBT Task List.
  • Applicant must have passed the RBT Competency Assessment Exam administered by a BACB certificant, pass the BACB’s RBT exam, and obtain or be in the process of obtaining registration as an RBT with the BACB.
