The Billing Specialist is engaged in the coding of claims as well as production and tracking of claims through the billing process for a network of primary care physician offices. The Billing Specialist identifies problems with unpaid claims and determines a course of action to resolve unbilled or denied claims. Follows all policies and procedures as outlined by the company and/or governmental regulations and according to HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and coding claims by reviewing ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS codes, ensuring accuracy and completeness with regards to medical documentation, and other necessary items to ensure a claim is ready to be billed
  • Submitting billing data and medical claims to insurance companies
  • Ensuring each patient’s medical information is accurate and up to date
  • Utilize online sites or phone calls to insurance companies to follow up on claim status, determine the best course of action based on information gained, and update accounts as needed to expedite the claims process and resolve outstanding accounts
  • Handle patient billing inquiries and resolve billing issues
  • Post insurance and patient payments accurately to patient accounts.
  • Perform other duties as directed by their manager/ other duties as assigned
  • Compliance with RHG policies

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 years of Medical Records, Insurance Billing, AR/ Cash Posting experience, preferably in a professional office setting
  • Experience with eClinical Works (eCW) strongly preferred
  • Must be able to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (both orally and written) with patients, external parties, team members, and their manager
  • Has a solid understanding of how insurance benefits work and impact patient claims
  • Logical and efficient, with keen attention to detail
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks
  • Self-motivated
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with eClinical Works strongly preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel preferred
  • Experience with insurance/payer websites preferred
