Paint Line Loader

Objectives

Loads spring assemblies and parts onto paint line conveyer in prescribed manner for optimum coverage of spray finish according to design specifications and company quality standards. Unloads conveyer line and places springs onto label printer machine.

This is a 2nd Shift position which runs from 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Employees must be flexible to accommodate company needs. Overtime may be required.

Main Tasks

• Follows written and verbal instructions on parts/assemblies to hang.
• Verifies parts identification prior to hanging on racks.
• Visually inspects parts prior to hanging to detect any irregularities such as rust, dents, scratches, etc.
• Hangs or mounts parts/assemblies onto paint conveyer line in prescribed manner to ensure optimum coverage of spray finish.
• Adds protector tips as needed.
• Uses floor jack.
• Observes plant safety rules.
• Conducts periodic quality inspections on painted parts using finish gage, adhesion tester, dial caliper, thickness gage.
• Monitors the operation of paint conveyor line, replaces tips, hangers and racks – as needed – and corrects crashes, etc.

Secondary Tasks

• Cleans chemical tanks.
• Cleans immediate work area.
• Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.

Education, Training, Certifications

• High school diploma or GED required

Experience

• One-month work experience is required to become proficient in most phases of the job.

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Must be familiar with the identification of parts and assemblies, unloading procedures, tip and rack requirements and proper handling techniques for painted parts.
• Must know the proper stacking procedures for painted parts and spring assemblies.
• Initiative - Follows well defined procedures and guidelines with work closely supervised. Judgment and initiative are required to maintain accuracy and required level of production.

Accountability / Impact of Errors

• Responsibility for Equipment - Monitors, sets up and adjusts automatic electrostatic spray equipment which could be damaged if done improperly. Expensive repairs or replacement of parts such as disc could result from carelessness.
• Responsibility for Material or Product - Works with assemblies and parts where most errors would readily be detected. Careless handling of products could result in bent of damaged parts, which could not be salvaged.
• Responsibility for Others - Works in cooperation with others where caution is required to prevent injuries to coworkers.

Working Conditions

• Works in a normal manufacturing environment with machine noise present in adjoining work areas but not to a disagreeable extent.
• Exposed to potential cuts and scrapes to fingers and hands, mashed foot, minor burns or head injuries at conveyer line.
• Walking, reaching, bending, pushing and pulling are required. Good eye/hand coordination necessary. Light to moderate lifting necessary. Maneuvers and positions are heavy part bins with aid of floor jack. Speed of conveyer line determines rate of physical activity.
