Job Summary:
A Speech Therapist who provides coordinated speech therapy to patients of all age groups.
Essential Functions
- Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills.
- Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems.
- Provides counseling and guidance and language development therapy.
- Reviews patient file to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is available.
- Applies concepts of infection control and universal precautions in coordinating /performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease.
- Administers, scores, and analyzes the results of specialized hearing and speech tests.
- Uses effective interpersonal relations and communication skills; facilitates the use of these skills by other team members to achieve desirable outcomes.
- Meets mandatory continuing educations requirements of the agency/licensing board and participates in in-services.
- Promotes compliance with all fiscal intermediary and /or other third party payers, through education, coaching and other assistance as necessary.
- Develops and implements individualized plans for clients to meet individual needs.
Job Qualifications:
Educations: Graduate of an accredited college or University in Speech-Language Pathology.
Licensure: Current Texas State License in Speech –Language Pathology, current Texas Driver’s License.
Experience: Two years experience in acute care or rehabilitation setting, home health preferred.
Skills: Therapy skills as defined as generally accepted standards of practice. Good interpersonal skills.
Transportation: Reliable transportation and valid and current auto liability insurance.
Environmental and Working Conditions
Works in a patient’s home in various conditions; possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids and infectious diseases; ability to work flexible schedule; ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather.
Physical and Mental Efforts:
Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and patient needs and to meet patient/family individualized psycho social needs
