ABOUT THE JOB

The Director of Product Development will oversee all aspects of vehicle development throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to production.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and inspire a diverse cross-functional team of employee and subcontractor engineers, designers, and technicians.
  • Develop employee career planning and training plans, coach and mentor employees.
  • Develop strategies for and implement people, product and process robustness and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Develop and manage the budget and timelines for product development projects, ensuring optimal resource utilization and timely and cost-effective product delivery.
  • Regularly communicate project status, challenges, and successes to executive leadership and other stakeholders. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous quality standards for products, ensuring they meet or exceed industry benchmarks.
  • Implement testing, engineering verification and production validation processes to guarantee product quality and reliability.
  • Drive a 'design for assembly' and customer-focused culture within the product development organization.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising product quality and reliability.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation in product development.
  • Stay informed about and ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards and work closely with legal and regulatory affairs teams to navigate and adhere to relevant guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in engineering is required, MS preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of OEM experience in automotive engineering and product development.
  • Strong engineering background with practical and theoretical knowledge of automotive vehicles and systems.
  • High familiarity with systems engineering and trade-off methodologies.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with company and external personnel.
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize and be comfortable with multiple and highly flexible job tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and use of APQP process, Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Catia V5, VXelements, and Geomagic Design X and Control X.

PAY AND BENEFITS

  • $175-225k base salary, dependent on skills and experience.
  • Up to 25% performance bonus based on achievement of individual and company objectives.
  • Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision coverage and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • 401(k) with up to 4% company match.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation plus one week of sick leave.
