Job Description:

The Patient Financial Specialist or Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for collecting payments for the company using skills in project management, organization and communications to collect the payments from clients and customers. The Patient Financial Specialists track payments and run reports that document profits and losses for an organization.

  • Maintain bookkeeping databases and spreadsheets, updating information as needed
  • Communicate with previous clients and customers to request payment and arrange payment plans
  • Collect payment from customers and accurately record it into the system
  • Create reports and balance sheets that document overall profits and losses
  • Update client accounts based on payment or contact information.
  • Researches billing disputes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of insurance processing guidelines and uses knowledge to explain EOBs and patient balances to patients.
  • Initiates simple corrections on accounts when balances are incorrect.
  • Escalates trends to supervisor.
  • Escalates complex problem accounts to Patient Receivables Team .
  • Receives calls from patients/guarantors to answer questions regarding their account.
  • Uses applications and programs appropriately to communicate with various internal departments to obtain or clarify facts regarding patient care as it relates to billing and collections
  • Makes outbound calls to guarantors to initiate collections on outstanding balances.
  • Calls patients to follow up with results and answers that required time to research.
  • Collects Patient Balances
  • Exceeds monthly quota.
  • Explains balances to patients, initiates payment plans and collects outstanding balances.

Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Medical collections and insurance experience preferred
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Possesses keen time management skills
  • Maintains a positive outlook at all times
  • Results driven
  • Self-motivated to excel
  • Outstanding telephone etiquette
  • Excellent computer literate/typing skills
  • Common knowledge of collection laws.
