POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Staff Accountant position is to process accounts payable, maintain accounts payable documentation, and assist with audits, budget, and close processes. The Staff Accountant also assists the Controller as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Analyzes and processes accounts payable in a timely manner.
  • Codes such items as invoices, vouchers, check requests, etc. with correct codes conforming to standard procedures to ensure proper entry into the financial system.
  • Handles all vendor correspondence in writing, via phone, or email.
  • Investigates and resolves problems associated with processing of invoices.
  • Prepares and processes accounts payable check payments, wire transfers, and ACH payments weekly.
  • Receives, researches, and resolves a variety of routine internal and external inquiries concerning account status, including communicating the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate people.
  • Files, maintains, and distributes accounting documents, records, and reports.
  • Assists in compiling information and preparing responses to auditors during annual audits.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the Finance Department.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in non-profit accounting.
  • Strong financial analysis skills.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Strong work ethic and team player.
