PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understands blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Measures, marks, scribes dimensions, and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining utilizing micrometer, gauges, scales, calipers, scriber, compass, and protractor
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as horizontal and vertical boring mills, lathes, drill press, grinders, and shapers
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusts machine controls or control media as required
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly
  • Repairs defective parts and re-installs and/or installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance
  • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts
  • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated
  • Confers with supervisor, engineer, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) machines
  • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines
  • Situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions
  • Maintain a clean work environment including the machine, floors, desks, and fans in accordance with our 5S system

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school, or two years’ related manufacturing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Able to calculate figures, amounts such as proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Apply the concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must become a Certified Fork Lift operator in accordance with SCT training and carry a copy of your certification with you.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands. Frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lifts/moves 25 to 75 pounds. Must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during the shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
