The Buyer/Planner position manages schedules, orders and will coordinate the delivery of parts, materials, equipment, and services used in manufacturing according to production plans. They will create and maintain inventory logs, assist with assigning part numbers, and will expedite orders as needed. Duties will involve establishing standard costs on required production parts/materials and assisting in the selection/review of suppliers. This position will act as the primary contact for suppliers.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Strategic sourcing: Coordinate with the team supply base design development, request for quote (RFQ) development and issuance, supplier selection, quotation award and communication working with existing suppliers and potentially onboarding new suppliers.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Overall RFQ management and negotiations, cost saving initiatives, supplier relationship and performance evaluation.
  • Inventory Management: Support reporting, inventory parameters, reduction and reserve percentage measurements, Product Life Cycle management.
  • Analytics: Analyzes contractual commitments, customer specifications, design changes, and other data to plan and develop planning and procurement activities from conceptual stage through life cycle of product.
  • Supplier Performance Management – responsible for working with site operations quality and global sourcing on supplier report cards to insure that plans of action are developed and implemented for improving poor performing suppliers.
  • Tactical Purchasing:
  • Manage material flow, tracking, ordering, and scheduling.
  • Must be able to verify availability of material and available capacity internally and at vendors.
  • Maintain strong working relationships and communications with key internal customers and key suppliers to confirm production/shipping schedules and monitor open purchase orders for all orders to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Proactively report product and material availability issues.
  • Execute job responsibilities and duties compliant with ISO quality systems.
  • Complete special projects and assignments as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years' purchasing experience.
  • Purchasing in Manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Previous experience working with ISO requirements.
  • Prior supply management and inventory control required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, in person, and by phone.
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to analyze information and detect issues.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently under pressure and react quickly to changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise required.
