North Suffolk is looking for a Peer Coordinator to join our team The Peer Coordinator works within the ACCS program to provide support & guidance to ACCS teams in order to ensure that the role of Peer Support Specialist is defined and integrated into services. The Peer Coordinator provides supervision and mentorship to Peer Support Specialists. The Peer Coordinator represents the agency in various committees, events and recovery focused trainings. The Peer Coordinator may also be a resource to other Departments of the Agency with the goal of helping the entire Agency become more Recovery focused. The Peer Coordinator is designated for a person who is or has been a recipient of services for a mental health and/or substance use disorder and identifies as a person in Recovery. Because of his/her life experience with mental illness and mental health services, the Peer Coordinator provides expertise that professional training cannot replicate.

What you'll do:

  • Provide guidance and supervision to the Peer Support Specialists as well as participate and make recommendations in the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of Peer Support Specialists.
  • Meet regularly with ACCS management to develop schedules, provide guidance, and assist in the assignments of Peer Support Specialists within designated teams to assure peer support services that uphold the values and ethics of each discipline while maintaining collaboration of the integrated teams.
  • Assist supervisees with applying for necessary certifications and obtaining the necessary education to complete job requirements in ACCS.
  • Ensure to extent possible the involvement of Peer Support Specialists in every aspect of ACCS service delivery; including supporting others in defining goals, articulating barriers, accessing supports and resources, and developing skills necessary for achieving independence in the community of one’s choice.
  • Develop and participate in pre-service and ongoing training for peer specialist staff and for non-peer colleagues as necessary to educate the agency fully on the values and tenets of recovery.
  • Advocate for people with mental health and/or substance use disorders and play a leadership role in helping others understand the need for people to independently make informed choices regarding their own recovery.
  • Promote the use of natural supports within the neighborhood and community of the North Suffolk community.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation and use of WRAP or similar recovery oriented self-management plans as well as other Evidenced Based Practices including Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing.

What you’ll need:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required.
    • Bachelors Degree preferred (may be in a field other than human services/behavioral sciences)
  • Experience:
    • Experience working with adults who identify as having a mental health and/or substance use disorder or with individuals with similar human-services needs.
    • Must be a current or former recipient of mental health services who is in recovery.
  • Skills:
    • Must be MAP and CPR/First Aid certified within five months of hire (training provided)
    • Massachusetts Drivers License preferred
    • Must have completed an accredited Peer Specialist Certification program
