General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for coordinating referral authorizations and insurance eligibility.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Obtain authorization for all necessary scheduled patients. Retain the authorization request and record the authorization into the EMR system.
  2. Obtain authorization on any needed referrals going out. Should have knowledege of Cover My Meds for Pharmacy medications prescribed. ECW Preferred.
  3. Run eligibility, correct errors and notify your supervisor of any denied authorizations or eligibility problems. Document all manual calls.
  4. Run a report 48 hours in advance to make sure that no authorizations were missed
  5. Coverage for check in.
  6. View every account that you are working to make sure that there are no pending claims. If there are open claims then work those accounts.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

 

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.

 

Experience: Minimum one year referral/authorization experience.

Performance Requirements:


Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  2. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.
  3. Knowledge of computer systems, programs, and spreadsheet applications.

 

Skills:

  1. Skill in oral and written communication.
  2. Skill in time management and organization.

 

Abilities:

  1. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all business/work information.
  2. Ability to effectively work with others.

 

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

 

Work Environment: Position is in a well-lighted office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work.

 

Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
